No. I'll take a look.

Natural resources have always been at the core of our success in America. Our intelligent management of them is critical to our future success.

Natural resources = national security.

A problem with that is that the markets tend to be driven by what's reported in the news media. We've seen examples over the years when a company is doing well financially, but the media spin something negative about it and the stock plunges. Then there was the dot com thing where the media lavished praise and stock values skyrocketed for companies that had virtually no income. And we all know what happened after that.

If its just spin, the price will recover. If there is truth to the bad news, then the company not going to be doing very well financially. Either way, you can't argue with the tape.

Just like the housing bubble where people said real estate never goes down and ramble on about how they're not making any more land, yada yada.... Back in the 90's nobody had ever lived thru a big stock decline, so they thought stocks always go up. It wasn't the media, it was one guy at the factory hearing about another guy making a killing in stocks and wanting a piece of the pie. Once everybody got their piece, there was nobody left to buy. So, prices collapsed. I'm looking for the same thing to happen with gold soon. In addition to the constant barrage of gold ads on tv and radio, now we have gold places sponsoring sporting events. Its getting crazy. I might bet gold will go above 1000, but after that I wouldn't touch gold with your money.

Not that often I listen to Obama, but I caught the speech just now. He said banks are going to pay 68 billion of the TARP money back and at a profit. Since many here are pessimists, what's the negative spin on this news? A drop in the bucket?

And that pay-go thing sounds logical. What's the bad part of that?

As I recall, Obama said the money will stand by to protect the financial system. For how long, I didn't hear.

So in other words, we got nothing back. And like Hawkeye said, it's not going back to the original debt. But I guess it doesn't matter, China wants the money in Yuan's anyway.

I found this graph interesting. It is the Obama administration's predictions of how the stimulus bill will work and how it is actually going: Obama's unemployment numbers

I don't know where either of those blue lines came from.... Employment graphs just don't look like that. They're either straight up, straight down, or sideways.
