Default Remembering 9/11/2001

Hello all. Watching the coverage brought back how close my family and I were to danger that day. Wife, myself, 2 boys, and 25 friends all flew out of Logan Airport that morning and lifted off on our way to Orlando, FL around the time that the last 2 terrorists landed in Logan from Maine. Quick stopover in Baltimore, MD and we were back in the air. Around the time we got to cruising altitude the stewardesses were called up front and some of our group that saw them said they had never seen anyone so scared. We were one of the last airlines allowed to land in the US as we touched down in FL without knowing what happened. The airport monitors all had blank screens and people were literally running out of the airport. We didn't believe people at first until we talked to an airport employee who told us about the WTC. Somehow we got to call all the families who had kids we were chaperoning on the trip and call our own families to let them know it wasn't our jet and we were okay. We got to our rental car place to pick up the cars we had ordered for the week and there had to be 2000 people there. Our route away from the airport was wide open only with vehicles leaving. They were not allowing vehicles into the airport. I think back and realize that if we had been going to Cal. instead of FL that morning it would have been our jet. I had mixed emotions. As a Christian, I felt I wished it had been my jet instead of a jet full of people that might not have been ready, by His grace, to meet Him. I was angry at the cowards who had killed innocent people and later tried to sign up for the Air Marshals Service that was being set up but was too old at 38. And most of all saddened by the loss of so many people. There almost wasn't anyone up here in Massachusetts that didn't know someone who died as a result of the attacks. A nice guy who went to college with my wife and had come to our wedding was on one of the jets that went into the WTC. A Coworker's cousin was one of the NYFD's firefighters who was lost when one of the towers came down. Brother worked with a guy from Raytheon who was also on the same flight. List goes on and on. I'm glad our soldiers are fighting the good fight and prosecuting those who would do us harm. They understand the battle and it's costs. They are making the sacrifices so we can live at peace. On this day of remembrance I just wanted to say, Thank You! to all our servicemen and women.
