It is not just you. I have a cable modem, and the pages load slow. Almost seems like I have a dial up modem.

Allll.... Quit your bitchin. It's the Routers not the servers...Thanks Sun.

I'm stuck on phone lines from 1956. Every time it rains I get knocked off.

Looking at a Hughes Satellite modem. F these wires!.... My luck, after I get that,,,,Bees will build a nest in it.

Bell Atlantic........You just don't get it...........

Cable modem---8 monthes away. I might as well move to the trunk.

Routers??? Where? Why would they be the problem?

I am directly connected to the internet via 100BaseT Bay Networks switch and a T1. My system is a dual 500mhz with 384MB ram...

It is the response time of the server. The forum has a lot of users granted, but it is still slow at 2am in the morning. I blame it on Cold Fusion, either the code is doing too much for the server to keep up with or is written inefficiently.

When I started coding, I built a simple search engine for work (in ASP), my first version (which was my first attempt at ASP) took about 1 minute to complete a search thru about 8000 records (interfacing to an old file based system). That same search engine is much more complex today and now completes even the widest searches in less than one second. There are so many ways to go about doing a particular job, some far more efficient than others. Sometimes you just have to change the way you think a little...

30 second wate to bring up a topic for me.. TRX430EX, dont get the satalight as hughes moderates the speed. A friend got it and after a week they turned his download rate down to 128kbs because they "detected" heavy downloading and they throttled him down! so he is now paying over $75 a month for a slow connection..

well, besides that, you can not upload through a satalite system, you need another connection, such as a phone line for that.

I wouldn't blame ColdFusion.

They are probably running an Access database for all the record management.

We use CF for a bunch of stuff at work, but we connect to an Oracle 8i database on the same server. Speed is fine. Can retrieve and display 30,000 records in about 10 seconds.

I've used CF, ASP, LiveWire (Netscape Server Side Scripting), Perl/CGI, PHP and am getting ready to start a project using BEA WebLogic with Enterprise Java Beans.

So far, I like CF best for simple web programming. I would like to learn more about Java Server Pages, it looks to be about the same as CF.

Don't blame CF for the slow delivery. Probably a database speed problem.

Actually, I believe they are using SQL Server. The only reason I said CF was because it is easy to program in. This usually equals inefficient unless a person is really careful in the way that they code. I have seen quite a few CF sites slow down under heavy use, and that's what I attributed it to. Not saying CF itself is slow, but since it is easy to program in, easy to get a site up and running, less likely to get optimized..... Kinda like C++ vs Visual Basic... Which is the more robust language? Which is the easiest to program in?

Of course it could be the way the database is designed as well, if they started with Access, then migrated that DB to SQL, many of the advantages that SQL offers may not be taken advantage of as they would have if you started designing the DB with SQL in mind from the start.
