hydration back pack
#2
I had one in my hand yesterday, 45oz camelbak but I talked myself out of it.....It was a small one that went around your waist and rested near the small of your back....
I'd say if you do a lot of riding in hot weather they are certainly worth it, otherwise I don't know.....that's why I didn't get one.....that's a lot of water to be carrying (sloshing?) around on your back.
I'll probably breakdown and get one just so I'll have it in case I ever need one....
The mules and charge are nice looking packs.....

I got a very basic 50 ounce bag that I zip tie on the back of my chest protector when not racing. On Sunday, it was better than 95 degrees and nearly as high humidity. I filled my water bag with ice cubes and had really cold water every drink during a 3 hour ride. Well worth the $30 or so. I wish I could find a place to store the drinking tube that won't get covered in mud when things are really sloppy, I end up using a lot of water rinsing mud off the nozzle before getting a drink.

the camelback is designed to collapse as it is emptied, that way the water wont slosh around. its a good investment, youll be suprised by how much you use for things besides riding.

I can not imagine riding with out one , I have the 100oz Camelbak that also carries first aid kit , hand towel , tow strap , and an extra 1 liter bottle of water . The water never sloshes around and with it over my chest protector I can barely feel it , it is not as heavy as some would think.

Cool, I didn't realize the water wouldn't slosh around...I'll probably pick up a little larger one than I had been looking at.
As far as the mouth piece getting dirty.....couldn't you tear the corner out of a plastic baggie and put it over the mouthpiece and secure it with a rubber band?

Target has a 70oz maybe bigger for $29.99 , but the down fall is the bladder opening is not big enough to put ice in so you have to fill it half way and freeze it the night before you ride.

They are a must.
Just get the cheapest 72 oz+ camelback you can find. ($25-35)
Keep it clean, and you will love it. I would only use water (personal preference).
It is way easy to drink and ride. I use it to clean dust from the mouth constantly in the dry season.
It may save your life someday. I think it offers a little bit of spine protection too.
