Platinum Vapor Injection (PVI) has been a topic of dicussion around here lately. I am trying to figure out if it is hocus-pocus or not. They claim it has uses on ATVs, although I'm not sure I would use it on my car!

The basic concept is a small canister mounted under the hood of your car. It has one line going to a vacuum source. The canister is filled with a platinum based cocktail. As the engine runs the vacuum line sucks platinum vapor into the combustion chamber. They claim the vapor is a catalyst that causes the fuel to burn almost completely (98%). They claim increased fuel economy of at least 15%, reduced emissions by orders of magnitude, reduced need for (prepare yourself) high octane fuels. They claim it is basically catalytic coverter technology used in the combustion chamber, where you reap the benefits of the increased burn.

Fact or hocus-pocus? Thoughts?

The web site is at www.pvitech.com

Deej....
I have looked into this, because all of the Fountian Tire's are pushing it.
They want $300.00 for the product and installation.
The guy that I usually buy my tires from, installed one on his Bonneville, and said that it runs smoother, starts easier, and the fuel economy has improved.
The Edmonton Sun, has a Wheels section every Friday, and they did do an independent test on this particular product, over a six month or one year time frame, but I didnt see the end result.
I myself, have had a curiousity towards this product, it is manufactured in the States, and seems to have some scientific validity.
I'll see if I can E-mail the Sun, and get the reports findings, and let you know.

I have read over the articles on their web site and it does make sense. I work at an oil refinery, and the part about Mobil oil, finding this info out with their Catalytic Cracking unit is true. We have one such unit where I work, and it runs a platinum catalyst powder through the reactor (combution chamber) to crack hydrocarbon molecules into lighter product. Now if it actually does work on a car though, I would think it would of been on a car by now, especially with the EPA cracking down on everything. Hell, a two-stroke might actually be "clean"? I have serious doubts about it, and would actually have to see it myself before I tried it. Usually, when a company has a good idea, it will be marketed competively as to be known by everyone, not like the way it is now. Later
