Kinda funny story
#1
I went to my local atv, motorcycle, boat dealer near Los Angeles yesterday just to check out some bikes. I was looking at some of the atv's they had there, raptors, banshees, new 450's, and predators. Anyway I was standing there shooting the breeze with a few other customers when a sales guy comes up to us. He asked if we needed any help and a couple of the people had some questions about some of the quads. This sales guy didn't know squat! He couldn't answer even the basic questions, so I stepped in and started answering some of their questions. There must have been at least 7 people asking me questions about a few different quads, the sales guy even called in back up. He called another sales guy who didn't know squat. One of the people asking me the ?'s went to say, "You know more about these things than the people who work here, you should get a job here!" So anyway I was showing these people around talking about the different quads and I ended up convincing 2 people to buy atv's, 1 raptor and 1 yfz450!! At this point the manager was walking around with us but I had no idea who he was. After some of the people cleared out, he came up to me and asked me how I knew so much about all the quads. I didn't tell him I was reading all these posts all the time, I told him I just read a lot of magazines, anyway he offered me a sales job! I told him I could only do it on weekends and he said he would work it out for me I would come on for weekends, he even said I could make my own hours! I told him I would think about it. I just thought this was kind of funny and wanted to share. Anyway, see ya!

A good salesman is born, not made, and it sounds like the manager knows one when he sees one. Give it a part-time shot, you may find that you like the public interraction. There are always jobs for folks that can close a deal. Oh yeah, congrats on selling 2 Yamahas!!

Not kinda funny, really funny, but sad. I have the same problem. Go into a dealer to talk about a new quad and nobody can answer any of your questions. They look at you like "where did you come from and if you know so much, why are you asking me?" Thank you ATV forums and all the info everyone provides. It makes us dangerous customers. A salesman’s worst nightmare.
The dealer we bought our Hondas from are true Honda people, ask them anything and they have the answer right now. It is the only dealer that I have been in that is like that. #1 Rubicon dealer west of the Mississippi. They were also the one who pointed out the mis-torqued front end bolts in the Rincon’s. Sharp people.
Steadman’s in Tooele, Utah. Good people.
Congrats on the new job. I would like to sell ATV's, but, we ride on Saturdays. Saturday is ATV Day, a weekly holiday.
