The term "Raped Ape" is a bastardization of the title of a best selling book of the early 1970's "Rape of the A*P*E" by then enormously popular comedian Allen Sherman (who also wrotethe #1 record "Hello Muddah. Hello Faddah").

In the title, the A*P*E was the "American Puritan Ethic" and the book chronicled the history of the sexual revolution.

The words "running like a... " come from the term "running like a spotted-*** ape" and I'm not certain of the origin of that phrase.

Sooner or later it was bound to happen- someone who didn't know any better mixed the two together and "running like a raped ape" was born.

Pretty dumb, huh?
