Encourage me brethren. I need to know, Why , How and Where!

Why is it that every ATV on the market is either $2000 more than a new one or it looks like it was some sort of test model for how much torture it can take. And how does a 98 Banshee get sooooooo beat that it looks like a 78. I drove over 400 miles one way and spent $100 in tolls, gas, and food to look at (and hopefully buy) a 98 banshee that, put mildly, was "toe up from the flo up". It was spray painted silver, the headlights were torn off, it had to be kept at about half throttle to run, and was in overall junk condition. Why can't I find some rich kid that got one for his birthday and broke his leg on it the next day, after which it set in the climate controlled garage for 6 months until I stroll along with 500 bucks and do the kids parents a favor by getting rid of it? Has ANYONE EVER got a GOOD DEAL on a Quad (especially a Banshee) that didn't need $6300 in repairs??? I need some encouragement here! I can't bear the thought of going to a dealer and getting gang stang for a new one and then having to pay the feds their cut which is going to be used build another 8 foot high chain link fence around another riding area with me on the outside looking in.

My friend got a honda 250x that was in near mint condition and only needs newer rear tires for $2500 and the thing has been piped and jetted, i think he got a pretty good deal on it considering he got the stock parts with it.

lol, I too have had the same luck.. back when i was in the 7th grade my parients drove all over looking at junk 80cc dirtbikes until I found a 88'RM80 in good shape for $500.00 and I kept it in nice shape and sold it for $1,000 3 years ago
Just keep looking and if the dude sounds like a idiot over the phone dont take the drive.. P.S. toll charges? that is one thing I have never seen or paid for.. hopefully never will!

Sorry A400L. I gotta have a clutch. Besides that I don't even know where I'd find a "66" station let alone 110 octane fuel. I have needs brother and those needs can only be satisfied by a Banshee (although that Cannondale looks really hot). I want something I can get on and drive out of the garage w/o having to spend the last 8 hours of Friday night fixing it to ride on Saturday, and the last 8 hours of Sunday shoveling the parts on the trailer to get ready for next Friday nights repair session. That leaves me with one more question A400L. Why you getting rid of yours?
And JRM... The tolls were paid thru Chicago, the Indiana toll system and the Ohio turnpike, and back again. A total of $33.00. It's an odd # because one toll person didn't see I had the trailer.

wow, quite a shaft-job that cat pulled on you. sorry you made the trip. i found my banshee (a 94, in very good shape) off the Yahoo! classifieds. The guy was near me here in michigan, so i strolled over and plunked down $2400 for it. might i also suggest some other less-orthodox sources such as excite or off-road.com classifieds.
i hate to say this, but as a general rule, most people with banshees are idiots. and i have one. but i've found that many banshee owners crave additional power, yet can't handle it. they buy a twin, but hate working on it. and they beat the hell out of it, and gripe about maintaining it. and to top it all off, they generally drive around with those Calvin-pissing-on-a-polaris-symbol stickers and wear oakley sunglasses. go figure.
so i guess the suggestion is stay away from a banshee owners' "honest" opinion. the real buys are out there my friend, keep to it!

I ride mostly at St. Joe and go up to Silver Lake Dunes about 2X a year. The 400 is set up for drags and I'd love to make it down to Bonne Terre and run it, but my schedual is getting busier and busier and I just dont have much time for it anymore.
The 400 screams and could probably do high 5's there. I know they are racing the 10th, but haven't decided if I'm going yet.

I've found several clean clean "wifes quad" deals from www.Traderonline.com.
The worst quad I bought was a 2 hour drive away, both primo rides I've bought were only 15 minutes from my house.
go figure....
