I would go with a 1/2 ton Chevy with the 5.3 (5.7 no longer available in Silverados, unles u live in Mexico). I have a 2003 Sierra reg. cab short bed. Dad has an 03 F-150 and its REALLY uncomfortable, friend has an 03 Dodge, its ok, but my truck pulls harder, another guy has a Tundra and has great power but it aint a full size truck. I would go with the chevy, parts are cheaper and...well...it aint no Dodge!

Since I work at a GMC dealer, I can tell you from experience that the Dodge's solid front axle is MUCH more durable than the Chevy's I.F.S. Especially when lifted with big tires.

I read on somewhere that it is a SEMI-hemispherical combustion chamber..........so we call them "Semi Hemi's"

If you are going to lift it you should look in to a 3/4 ton with a diesel. If not in the long run you will be wearing out parts like the frontend and with a diesel you will still be ale to get 15+ mpg gas you will be looking at less than 10 mpg going that big also it will give you alot more power.

I agree that the diesel will have more power.........and will be better on gas.......but if you do any serious muddin or anything.........that extra 6-800lbs in the front end does NOT help anything.........
you will sink like a mug........LoL

Dollarbillz you're comparing a diesel to a gasser. My V10 Ford will slaughter a PSD(acceleration) in towing or empty, however I cant get the 14+mpg towing or 17+ empty. Go up to www.getpower.com for some interesting comparisons. Btw, my next rig will be a Powerstroke. It wont get into traffic like my V10 does but it'll do just fine on the mileage! In my humble opinion whatever you get dont buy a 1/2 ton truck. Buy a good 1 ton rig, F350 D3500 or chevy 3500. You never regret having too much payload capacity. Btw my 99 V10 has 91000 miles without a single trip to the shop. Absoloutly ZERO mechanical failures. Sure I change the brake pads and the fluids but that's been it. Former chevy guy turned onto Ford trucks.
