hey, everyone. i have only been riding for about a month, but i already have the clutch down to second nature, and i can powerslide pretty easily too. anyways, i would love to get into MX. what should i have for goals for certain techniques, and stuff like that?? i have next to no clue, so anyone who is into MX, i would really appreciate what you did to train, so to speak, yourself. thank you in advance!!! anything is good! I am an amateur so take that into account when I answer. The only thing that I've found that REALLY improves my performance is racing, I'm much better after my first season that when I started. Practice is fun but nothing pushes you to expand your limits like the gate dropping so sign up for every race you can find. If you have any tracks near you, spend as much time on them as you can. Practice control, on the ground and in the air. Learn how hard you can push in the turns, learn how your quad flies when jumping, learn how to set up your suspension for your riding style. Find problems with your machine's setup and change components until you find the right mix (bars, tires, grips, gearing, suspension, power, etc). Start slow and concentrate on technique, speed will follow.

well,
im the type of person that listens to the tv intently and studies magazines to learn stuff. lol. and i was watching gncc racing ( this is pathetic ) and they were talking about when you are racing and your tires slide it slows you down a lot. if you think about it. when you are power sliding your tires are not gripping, that means no acceleration. so you work the handle bars to try to keep the wheels gripping good. i always thought it was better to slide right around. but i guess not, maybe if its a really sharp hairpin turn it might be better. but just try to keep the wheels from spinning causing you to slow down more than you want. thats all the help i have for you.
