will an atv float?

Will it float upside down with no one on it and no gear? Some people at my work said yes. Just wondering in case I went through the ice. I've never heard of anyone having to get their quad from the bottom of the lake. Keep Smilin!! Ice

I guess it depends on the quad, it's weight, tires, etc... My Recon floated once. Kinda. I drowned it out in a creek and when I got off the back end popped up and the front sank a little. It did float long enough to drag it back to shore. Then you have to clear out all the water.

we float ours all the time around here. just have to snorkel it and get the exhaust above the water line. depends on which one you have too. a sport quad doesn't float to good, some people around here found that out. most of the 4x4 atvs around here are running lifts with larger tires. some people will deflate a basketball and shove it up in the front end then air it back up to help keep the front end up on high water crossings.

like i said the 4x4 atvs will float with a little larger tires but you do need to add a snorle to keep water from getting in the intake. there are a couple of ponds at the riding park that are well over head deep that we cross all the time. the reason for the basketball in the front is because the front of the atvs all ways sets lower in the water so when you put the basket ball in there it raises it up and helps keep the air intake higher and also helps keep the front end from diving down. check out the september issue of four wheeler mag, i think it was september issue. it has some pictures from the east texas river rats event and an article on highlifters honda. there are some pics of a mud drag and the deepest part of tha slough was about 5'. it's even got my pic in there, way in the back ground. aroung here you have no choice but to float them sometimes. we don't have much in the way of rocks, sand or dunes but we got mud. lots of mud.
