Please don't misunderstand. I love to ride just like the next guy. For about ten years I allowed riders have fun and I actually built an area where they could rest and camp. I really enjoyed being able to contribute to their enjoyment of the outdoors and riding. It made me feel good knowing that I could share my fortunate situation with the land and all.
At first there was the occasional wild-man out there and it was no big deal. The second year I had trees cut to clear trails (my trails weren't good enough I guess). I posted two signs out there asking politely that they respect my property. Sometime during August of the 6th year my son found 10 or 12 guys and gals drunk out of their minds riding ATVs around in our yard at 2:30 AM. I was at a livestock auction that weekend or there would have been some wounded drunks. It took the county sheriff to correct that problem. The last year that we allowed ATVs on our property we had two guys seriously injured, we had fist fights, broken bottles and beer cans all over the place and several complaints from the sheriffs office. That did it. We mended the broken fences, posted signs, and patrolled the area almost every night. We had punks threaten us with bodily harm and threaten to burn some barns. Our front yard was tire tracks for a long time. One punk even drove up into the flower and herb garden that my wife keeps and did donuts all over the place.
Things have calmed down a bit over the past few years but still it's almost a full time job to keep the ATVs out now. So you see, I tried to support the need for a place to ride but it just didn't work out. Nowadays I always take my 12ga. shotgun out there and I'm not afraid to pull the trigger. Things are slowly returning to normal but it takes a lot of my time and my land back there may never recover.

Kracker and fridge 1, You need to respect the land that you ride on. It doesn't matter if the land is privately owned or public, Respect it. There are way to many organizations out there that would love to close all areas to riding. They even read forums like this and post it for their cause. I would like to see the same amount of public land open to my grand children that I am priviledged to ride on.

sad, sad, sad. There are bad apples in all types of sports. who knows what happens to these people to make them not respect places to ride. It's not hard to apply by a few rules and you can reap so many benefits. These people that just do what they want are the kinds of people that expect everyone to give them something for nothing and whine that the world is against them and they don't get any breaks. Heck they probably complain that law enforcement is always picking on them and life isn't fair.
Swizzler sorry to hear about your stories. I hope that things have improved and just to let you know we all don't act that way. I guess it has to do with the way your raised?
