Yeah right, one or two trees. One truck load only gets around $300. With my parents 4 acres of trees we got some where around $1800-2000 and thats for pretty decent wood and we even found a Red Oak (rare). And trust me my parents, grandparents, and the loggers know how ticked off I am. I have made it very well known to them that I'm not happy. I am cutting up the tops of the tree to sell as firewood, but for $40 a quard (sp?) its a total pain in the butt. I'll be working on that forever and still be lucky if I can get a truck payment or two out of it.

While I am not familiar with the relative value of wood in your area I am sure it will not deviate greatly from the industry norm. If all your parents got for several acres of woodlot is $2000 then unless it was treed with gangly little pecker poles, they got taken for a country ride. And why, unless somebody in the family was about to get whacked by a mob loan shark, would they turn their back acres into a moonscape for such a measly sum? Two grand can be spent in a weekend but the devastated acrage will last fourty years. What a stupid waste. Sorry to hear of it.

Glenlivet, I was thinking the exact same thing. It seems so stupid to me to destroy those woods for that little amount of money. I can see my grandparents doing it because they are getting around $10,000 because they have bigger trees, but the $2000 for what we had doesn't seem worth it to me. And we have checked around and all of the loggers and mills are getting pretty much the same rate, so we aren't getting screwed as far as that goes. Also I think a lot of our wood is gum and pine, and not a whole lot of big oaks.

My grand ma did the same thing on her farm about 15 years ago and she got almost 20000.00 for her 10 acres of trees. I will admit it did look way differnt, but it was hers to do and not my place to gripe. My grand parents bought the land and I was raised not to question or argue with my elders. The same thing is being taught to my own kids. This was in Michigan. AlaskaBoy.

Sorry to hear about your land dude!!!!!!!!! I have seen this type of thing first hand also........Where I go riding in southern Missouri there are a ton of trees and a ton of loggers. Some of the loggers will sneek on to property that is private and snag some of the big trees and run!!!! They better hope I never catch um!!!! I understand that logging is not always bad, Thinning out the trees is great for the forest but when they go in and Hash the Hell out of the land it is uncalled for!!!!!!!

I am confused by everybody who replys and says they are sorry for his land. He states that it his Grand Parents land and they were paid for the trees, the loggers did not sneak in or rob his grand parents, they just harvested what was negotiated for. AlaskaBoy.

Yeah, the deal was negotiated, but they were supposed to select cut it, not almost clear cut it. And from most of the select cutting operations I have seen they didn't make nearly as much of a mess. I took some pics and I'll post them on my pics page soon.

I have seen the select cutting you are talking about and they marked all the trees that they did not want cut with marking tape but even now an then a tree gets in the way and they remove it to get to the prime wood. In the case of my grand ma's property they stacked all the tops in slash piles that we could burn. It was strange to see the woods we used to play in as a stump covered hillside. Oh well, she sold it a couple of years later so I did not get to hunt there anymore and I moved up here. Now you got to see what you have to play with. AlaskaBoy.
