My first "real" job was at my hometown IGA grocery store bagging groceries and stocking shelves .. that was about 17 years ago .. started off at 4.25/hr and was making 5.25/hr 18 months later when I quit .. then worked under the table at the local John Deer heavy equipment shop. My dad was the service manager there until he retired a few years back .. that was a bit better .. $6/hr under the table

Grew up on the farm we, our family, still owns. Our kids are running it now and our grandkids are the 6th generation on the place. Can't remember when I didn't have chores to do. Started earning "a man's pay" when I was about 8. At that time the rate was 80 or 90 cents an hour, can't remember which. I do know it went to $1.00 an hour when I was 10. Regular work week was 10 hours a day Monday thru Saturday. Sunday we just fed and watered the livestock, which was usually just a few hours. During the school year I was expected to work after school and on Saturday. I was allowed to spend a (small) portion of what I earned, the rest was put in a savings account which I used to buy cattle or other investment purchases. Paid off in the long run.
Job I have now is the best ever, I retired the first of this month!

My job(first and current one) is at a woodshop The Oak Tree Mill-Custom Wood Products. I started out over a year ago working under the counter(I love no taxes) for $5.00/hour. I worked hard to impress the boss, and it payed of he gives me random bonuses(about $300.00)and $8.00/hour. I have the most flexible hours possible. No weekends. and am now in charge of all employee's. I almost quit for a better paying wood shop job, but I couldn't leave my "show up for work whenever I want hours".
