Snowplowing
#1
Looking for a new quad that will plow snow as well as my Big Bear 4X4 did. Any comments from folks plowing with belt drive autos wanted. How do they compare to manual shift auto clutch machines. I used a Warn 2000 for the lifting chore on the Big Bear but am looking at the Warn Actuator. Anyone have experience with it? I trail ride 60% and will work the quad 40%. I like the new Kodiak and Grizzly, but am concerned about the durability of the belts and shifting into reverse while under load. I used Blackwater XT's on the Big Bear and no longer needed chains. Anyone have any great plowing tires to talk about? Also looking at a leftover Quadrunner 500 but it's ugly.

If your looking for an atv that you just use for snow plowing...get a used one...you don't need a brand new one..it's just wasting money....get like a 1997 or 1998 with manual clutch...I think it's better because you can choose the gear what you want for plowing the light or heavy snow.

I own 2 belt driven 4x4 quads.A 99 Sportsman 500cc and a 00 Xplorer 400cc.I think it will be very hard to plow more snow than what the Sportsman is capable of doing, giving its weight and superior traction advantage of true 4x4. [AWD]I have never encountered a belt problem on either quad, both have plows to.The biggest thing with belt driven quads is to remember too use LOW range when towing, plowing, mudding ,hill climbing,or anything that brings doubt to your mind.I know guys that have over 3000 miles on the same belt.I use the Goodyear Mudrunners for superior traction on both quads.=====Bill
