what is best way to fix roughed up plastic?
#1
After an unfortunate tumble down a hill, the plastic bodywork on my quad got pretty roughed up. I tried sanding the plastic, which made it better, but is there a good way to make it look closer to new? maybe something to fill in the deeper grooves and make it smoother?
Thanks

You can work your way through ten stages of sandpaper up to like 2000 grit, spend a week doing it, and you will have so-so looking plastic. Or if you consider your time is even worth minimum wage, you can order new stuff and it'll look right.

I got the perfect solution for you...my plastic on my scrammy was pretty roughed up also..had scratches...deep,, and regular scratches...so I got this plastic renew kit from rocky mountain..it cost me like 15 bucks plus shipping...it comes with 220 grit wet sand paper..then like 300 grit..then some 400 grit wet sandpaper..granted..you have to use some elbow grease and you have so sand it really well....then you get a solution that you wipe on with a cloth..and you put about six coats of that on..I must say that my plastic looks as close as brand new as you can get for older messed up plastic...it shines and look great!!
If you go this route...the kit comes with everything you need and instructions..its easy to do just need elbow grease and some time...some advice though..buy a roll of shop towels..they only send you one peace to wipe the solution on and I went through like 15 sheets of shop towels...and last advice...you can get all of your scratches out sep maybe the super deep ones...but sand really really good...especially with the 400 grit which you use last...having your plastic perfectly smooth is the key and will make it look good...
20 bucks well worth it..trust me!

White rouge and a cloth buffing wheel at high rpm (careful, don't melt, just buff). Apply the rouge to the wheel, then buff. Someone also said MopNGlo works really good. Gotta say that that probably works only on a shine, not for fixing scratches.
I'm even thinking about trying a heat gun. If you're REALLY careful, that might knock down the ridge on a scratch and make little scuffs go away. I'll get some pics of that project and post them. I have a lot of tree marks on my Zuk.

I used Plastic renew on my Scrambler too, it just was really dull when I got done...so I think I done something wrong...now since I flipped my V I'm gonna give it a try on it too I guess

Well on that renew they said that the honda red and blue would need more coats...I know I put at least six or seven coats..I didn't use the steal wool because it didn't shine up like it said it would..it just dauled what I put on...so I didn't use it..and actually there were a few dull spots that didn't brighten up like the rest...I think I sanded a little to much on those spots..but my quad looks ten times better now that I did that then it did before hand.........if you want really good stuff...spend about 4 to 5 hundred bucks and buy new plastic!! I would,,but I'm on a poor mans budget! Plus I figure once you get scratches and stuff in your plastic..you don't worry about riding hard in the woods and everything and don't worry about screwing it up...IMO

The Plastic Re-newll stuff is Really really good, But it takes ALOT ALOT of work, You have to sand your but off if you want it to look good,
The more time you spend on each grit, the better it will come out
