Default Hey people. The snakes are out early this year.

Last weekend I saw 2 diamondbacks near the go cart track in Stoddard valley. Both were around 3.5 feet long.

Today I saw the fattest diamondback I have ever seen! He/She was almost black and was laying across the dirt road. About 5 feet long and as big around as a tennis ball! I also saw a skinny 3 ft long Red racer( non-poisinus) today. Saw these near the Baldy Mesa staging area. The Racer was pretty close to Hill 582.

So watch where you step and ride.

Please don't kill them. Although they are not my favorite animal either they are a very important part of the ecosystem. We are being overrun with rats and mice up here and the snakes eat these vermin which helps controll the Rat population.

Now if you find a rattler coiled up with you in your tent thats a different story but out in the desert let them be.

Don't kill the snakes! Something needs to solve the Kangaroo rat problem!

We have to worry about cotton mouths and coral snakes around here.

I hike and mountain bike (besides ride the quad) in the hills behind my house. It is rare that I DON'T see a snake of some kind. Mostly rattlers though! Try coming around a blind corner at full speed on a mountain bike, and there is a big rattler stretched out across the road!

Snakes are why I dont' mind wearing the big motocross boots and kneepads, even in hot weather!

I agree that people shouldn't kill the snakes out of fear or to be nasty. The only time is if someone is in danger or if someone is actually bitten. ( to be used to identify the type of snake) But if you do, try BBQing it. Taste like chicken. Just make sure you cut the head off and bury it. Then clean it out good. I killed a Eastern Rattlesnake years ago and it was full of eggs. Now I just want to take their pictures.

We also have Copperheads around here.

I'd rather just see them from a distance or in a book.

Where can I get one of those Ricky Ticky Tavies. (Now that can't be spelled right.)
