I have to agree with Ed. I don't, however, think it would take the coaxing of tourism dollars alone to get ATVs registered in VA. Although, it is a good point to add to the list of other reasons for registering the ATV.

FYI:

Pennsylvania - Think you can register ATVs, but not sure
New Jersey
New York
Ohio, no supporting web site
Oregon
Alaska
California

Here in Arizona I see lots of Honda 400EXs on the streets, as well as Polaris models. My 400EX is street legal. All we have to do is add a mirror, brake/tail light, license plate holder, brake light switch, horn, then get insurance and have it inspected by motor vehicle department.

You may want to try clicking on the link for California in my previous post.

As I interpret it, it is CA "State and Federal" law. However, if you notice the last sentence, they say certain regulations may apply to different areas.

Your best bet would probably be to go to your local DMV and find out.

I want my ATV street legal so bad. I live in a small, but own a farm and it is only 4 miles from where I live. I play vollball and drive my Grizz to the park, and work 11 miles away and have drove it out there. I live in Oklahoma and the law is pretty fuzzy on the issue. It is farm purpose so I get away with a lot, but the other day a pig stoped me to tell me he would rather me not drive it around town. So what is the law her and how can i get away with it.

Next time drive the tractor around town and see if the officer likes that better.

SRAUH try driving the tractor/combine/manuer spreader around town. Make your point clear that its much more pleasurable for all having u ride the atv

I don't see it ever happening in the Anchorage area, but I'd love to ride my Scrambler or my 6x into town.
