I'm new to the whole GPS craze, in fact I ordered one the other day and it hasn't arrived yet. After doing my research I decided on a Garmin GIII Plus. Besides using it in my car and the occasional fishing trip, I would also like to use it when riding my ATV on ORV trails in Northern Michigan. I went to the www.garmin.com site and looked at their add-on maps from MapSource searching to find a CD that has the trails. They sell a TOPO map and a Roads and Recreation map; both mention great for snowmobile use and say they have trails but do they have the trails I would like? Does anyone have these CD's who could tell me if ORV trails for Kalkaska, Michigan exist? (They are located North of M-72, West of I-75 surrounding Blue Lake Rd.) Or is there anyone who lives in MI with the trails maped out on their GPS that can offer advice?

I have the topo CD. I've heard that the R&R cd has "forestry designated" trails, but not the "non-designated" trails or the contour lines (which depict elevation of hills, mountains, etc.) While the R&R inclusion of trail designations is handy, I like the "full display" of terrain offered by topo. I'm sure either will covere your area. Also, you can edit the topo map in your GPS with trail markers or whatever. If you like exploring "off the heavily traveled trails", I suggest topo (which are derived from USGS maps)
