ATV accident
#1
My 11 year old son and I were at the hunting shack this weekend and had a Suzuki Vinson crash in front of us. They had been up and down the road several times with the quad going as fast as it would go and I new it was a matter of time before something happened. I went out back, But I could hear them coming up the road and then I heard some noise. I still didn't think to much of it until my son came running out back and said they flipped it over and were laying in the middle of the road not moving. I grabbed my cell phone and went running down to the crash site. They were both laying motionlless so I dialed 911 ( Was their lucky day because I usually don't get a signal in this area) and the male stated to come around first and then the girl. I tried to get the man to stay down, But he wouldn't. He was all scraped up ,bleeding in multiple areas and had the whole back uf his scalp gone. Both of them were very much out of it when the girl started screaming for her daughter. Neither one of them was coherent enough to answer wheter or not the daughter was on the atv so everyone was searching. After a few minutes the man was able to say it was just the two of them, But she was still out of it. They both left in ambulances and the sheriff impounded the atv because the man had no liscense and multiple DWI's. The atv didn't belong to either of the ones riding it , But the sheriff took it anyway. I looked at my son whoes eyes were as big as saucers by this time and said That is why you always where a helmet. At the same time I was thinking to myself, I am never going fast on the Grizz again because that scared the crap out of me as much as it did my son. From the best I could tell by the marks and the damage to the atv the were going 50 mph or more and started fish tailing then went end over end. My son said he could hear her screaming as they were rolling over.

That's horrible. The fact that he had multiple DWI's against him isn't good either as it sort of points to a cause there. Hope that wasn't the case. I also hope this doesn't sour the ATV experience for you and your young son. Nobody that young needs to see such things, though it probably opened his eyes to ATV safety and responsibility.
I hope the two of them are ok though .. no matter what they deserved for being reckless ..

I hope the people are ok as well and as bad as it sounds I am glad my son and I both got to see it because it opened both our eyes. I thought about this being another strike against ATV's as well. Even though they were drinking , riding double, going to fast, not wearing helmets and driving on the county road somehow I am sure it will turn out to be the ATV's fault.

Drinking, riding double, too fast, someone else's atv, several DWI's,----- probably broke with no insurance and their hospital bills will be dispersed among the rest of us, then they will go out and be a cost to society again.

I agree !! It is too bad ones like this will ruin it for everyone else. It is just like everything else, A few bad apples will ruin the whole grove. This will be one more check in favor of banning atv's from public land even though everything these two were doing was illegal the atv will still be blamed just like guns get blamed for all the murders. It is a bunch of B.S, but that is how it seems to work.

i agree with thunderbolt, someone somewhere is going to find a way to blame this on the atv and not the irresponsible riders. people who do things like this just give this sport a bad name and keep making it worse for everyone else who rides responsibly.

There was another accident here in Ohio - A father and his 6 yr. old son riding an atv on flat ground, both had helmets on. They went to cross a log and the atv flipped, crushing the 6 yr. old. Father is ok - there is a reason that the atv manufacturer say NO PASSENGERS. Sober, on level ground, a kid was stilled killed. (Mrs. Q)
