Hi All,

First time poster. I have a question maybe you all can help me out. The other day, I went out to my friends house, to get there, I take a trail and then go about 1/8 of a mile up a public road. So, I get there no problem, but as I'm coming back (3 hours later) on the public road, I see flashing lights up ahead. There was a cop up there who skids his car to put it horizontally so I couldn't easily go around him. As I get to him, I see an opening to the right and I take it, and going at about 35 head to the trails and rush in. Now, I live in CT, and I am only 15, with 5 years of riding exprerience, and I have NEVER had a cop chase me. At the time of the incident, I was driving a 125 Breeze (probably not the best choice for that particular run) but I am now getting a 450 Kodiak IRS. First question, was it the right move to run from the cops, or should I have stopped? Also, is the Kodiak a good choice of machinery for me? I ride on horse trails with HUGE logs, but I really would like to have some speed so I can keep up with my friends on their 250cc Dirt Bikes. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Bad move to run i say. most of the time they will just tell you to go home and dont ride on the road and yadda yadda. when you run you become a criminal for something that coulda been an escort home.

 

yea when i got stopped when riding with yamahrideronly on his rap n shee, the cop just gave us a warning and said he COULD take away the quads and impound em, but they usualy wont, so just stop n talk to em

 

he'll be lookin for you now, you should of just stopped and told him what you were doing, but skidding the car to block your path was also a wrong move on his part, that was not nessasary, same thing happened to me last winter, but I am in my mid thirties, i was on a mojave 110 riding along the rode in the snow when a cop did the same thing skidding the car in front of me, he yelled at me that i couldnt ride it on the rode, and i told him no problem i was in the yards, he said he would tow it if he saw me riding on the road, basically being a dic, but when i got up off the quad and took off my helmet and he saw i was a grown man he chilled, plus it was 10:30 at night on christmas day, so he was just being a dic head until he found out i wasnt some dumb kid he could bully, you just gotta keep your cool with them.

 

Even though I dont have a license? You think he would still let me off with a warning?

i have to say it all depends wher eyou live i notcie no post are form his area or state but hear in new york if you ride illegally or on road ( which every1 does) you have 2 choices
chocie 1 stop get tickets at the least an impound and even osme times alot of fine costing form 500 to 2000 bucks by me
choice 2 is to run and dont get chaught of face more like 3500 in fine and a court trial most ppl by me run cuz its iether that or u get big fiens and the qwuad goes by by

as for me i run but do stopp if i kno the cop cuz myt uncle is a deptuty inspector soo alot of the cops kno me and him but if i dont kno them i odnt chance it the guy that kno my uncle cuaz escourt me home it fun when u got the lights behind u ever1 looking and u jsut ride like nothings goign on

IVE BEEN PULLED OVER 3 TIMES BY THE SAME SHERIFF AND HE DOSNT EVEN RECOGNIZE ME EVANSVILLE IN

 

only run if you are positive you can get away, and cant be identified. or if you can deny you were running and it is beliveable. case in point:
a big group of us were riding and in the distance we saw a cop turn down the road so we fired up and rode off slow until we were out of sight and then hauled a$$, He did turn on his lights but he was far off. We pulled over further up( why I dont know but I stopped with the group) and sure enough the cop poped up from behind a hill and turned his lights on, it would have been obvious we were running if we took off so we sat there, he got out of his car all billy bad a$$ and mad cause we ran the first time, which we denied we said we didnt see him, so he said I had my siren on. We said well duuhhh!!! we have on helmets and our bike are too loud to hear you from a far distance, after that he was cool and just told us not to ride within a mile from the houses. Cops get an authority god complex if you run from them, "how dare you disobey me I am very improtant person, I'm a cop you have to do what I say" Most dont care if your riding, but if they feel you dont take them seriuosly they will be as hard on you as they can.

I know a non-licenced kid riding a non-licenced quad in AZ and the kid got written up for over $800 in fines. He go caught only crossing a road to get to national forest. Thats why I would be very careful. By the way, nice escape on the breeze. I bet ol Barney Fife was trying to unbutton his shirt pocket to get his bullet out.

 

9 times otta 10, they'll just recite the law to you... and won't do anything else.... You have to remember... Most cops are normal people just like you and me. If you treat them with respect, they will treat you with the same. I've been pulled over in a residential area doing wheelies on my yfz.... He just rolled up and told me that he had a complaint about people on quads..... Then he told me to be safe... and have a good one.... I always talk to the cops... It's never worth it to avoid them...
