So name calling is the cool thing to do now, i guess. How old are you? And hip hop is a very influencial force in our society. i hear gang violence is at the highest it's ever been. And look at kids and crime. when's the last time a tim mcgraw fan brought a gun to school, or threatened someone? And about the godsmack song you mentioned. im not saying the rap and rap alone have songs with swear words in them. Have you ever heard the song "so what" by metallica? there are quite a few swear words in that song. but that song, to me anyway, is more of a 'comedy' song if you will. what i AM saying is that you really have to listen to a lot of rock music to find a song that utilizes a swear word every 6 seconds, of every verse, and every song on that particular cd. Maybe it is they're way of life. they had no parents and grew up on the streets. so what, get over it. not everyone has a great life. but to constantly produce songs about killing and guns and drugs and hos and bling bling on the fleetwood is a little dramatic. You'd think after all that if life was so hard when they were young, they'd find something a little better to do with their money than line their mouth with gold.

I'm not exactly sure where you get your information, but gang violence is NOT at an all time high.

I also question what kind of rap you listen to. Killing people? You obviously don't listen to rap. The era of gangster rap ended quite some time ago. Most of the stuff out right now is all about flaunting what you have. lol I think the stuff you're thinking of is albums like "f!the police." Those kinds of records were being made when parental advisory stickers weren't even on CD covers yet [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

The more jaded, popular rap music by artists like nelly, 50 cent, eminem, and others isn't at all centered around gang violence like it used to be. Tomorrow morning on your way to work, flip the station to your local Hip-hop station...You might surprise yourself, and like some of it.


And for the comment "you have to listen to a lot of rock to hear cuss words often." No you don't. It's all over the place. It's in EVERY genre of music. Hell...Even Jimmy Buffett throws the f-bomb in SEVERAL songs on his albums.

I'm sorry if you think all rap music should sound like will smith, but some artists actually have something to say. If you don't like it, you don't have to listen. I think the absense of parents brings kids to the violence you're talking about. Granted artists in todays society don't help, but don't blame marilyn manson because your kid shot up his school.

Boy, the topic has drifted around a bit here. Here's my thoughts (if anyone cares)

I grew up when the first remnents of rap came along. Any of you remember Nucleus (Jam on it)? if you dont then you weren't around when rap really started. Those were the days where it really didnt mean anything, just a new type of music.

My wife works in a town that is more black than white. She had a young man drive up in an Escalade with nice big 24'' wheels on it. His buddy said "where are you working to buy that?" he told him he didn't work. Wander where that money was coming from?

Most think blacks have a certain type of attitude and I have a question for most of you. Would the blacks (or any other race) be any different from the whites at all if we would have treated them as equals like god intended?

Also, guns, knives, cars, music, etc. dont kill people. People kill people. Whether they are really insane or just plain stupid they are to blame. And the attitude and behavior of the younger generation is to blame on the parents. If the parents do the job they should then the kids will act the way they should 98% of the time.

The world is getting to be a horrible place to live. It is good to know that I will live the best years of my life here before it goes all the way to crap. I feel really sorry for you kids that are 12-16 years old, and especially feel sorry for what my daughter will have to live through and possibly her kids.

Maybe some of you don't care what I said and maybe some of you will agree. The new rap does pretty much suck, but there are a lot worse things to worry about than music.

If they were treated equally, in most cases they are treated better. I tried to get a job at laclede gas "local utility co." for 3yrs. and they told me plain and simple they could not hire me because they had to hire 6 black men and 4 black females for every white male. Also I had to go on a waiting list to become an operator, and once I came up I had to work 2000hrs on a permit before I got my card. Well once I got it I found out that if I was a "minority" from the inner city that the city would pay for my schooling and after 4 weeks of school they give you your card clean and clear. how equal is that?


Another thing, if you are a minority from the inner city you can send your kids to ANY county school you want. Even if tuition is 5000-6000 its fine the city covers it, all because the city schools have to many problems. WELL, who do you think F%$#ED them up? One more thing, they also want this retrobution pay because of how their great great great grand parents were treated. Please tell me what is equal?

 

I worded that phrase wrong. What if the blacks 50-100 years ago were treated the same and given the same opportunities. Would they be all that different today? I personally dont think so.

If people were given the same opportunities, there would be no such thing as racism. There wouldn't be any race but one. The HUMAN race. African Americans were treated with severe cruelty that you and I can't even begin to understand. Of COURSE they would be different. The only reason things are the way they are today, is because of great men like malcom X, and MLK...Otherwise, we might still be making those same mistakes we were, 50 or 100 years ago.

I'm personally not racist towards anyone. But I can say with complete honesty, that the most racist people are the African Americans. Hell, if I was mistreated like they were, I'd be racist too! MANY things would be different if everyone had the same opportunity. Don't be so ignorant to the world around you.
