This probably sounds faggy, but silk pantyhose as a first layer are incredible. I learned this from an old hunter that used to take his wifes pantyhose and wear them under pants. They keep you incredibly warm, almost too warm. Other then that you need some synthetics, underarmor makes first layer stuff called coldgear. Its made for people doing athletic stuff in cold weather, so it works great at keeping you warm and dry.

Hello SLEDG. Boy did I screw up. Went to post to this thread and posted instead to an old thread "What kind of winter gear do you wear? ". http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/424571.cfm

you can do goretex but the best thing I have tried is actual winter gear call refrigiwear. go to www.refrigiwear.com they offer bibs, coats, one pieces etc. I work for GM proving grounds and we do cold weather testing in KapusKasing Canada and this is what GM provides us with to wear since it's always at 0 degrees there. I just got back from Kap and have to go back in January which is the worst time of year cause it gets down to -40 to -50 degrees. at that temp celcius and farhenheight are equal. when I was out there a couple weeks ago it got down to -26C which is equal to about -8F. the refrigiwear kept me warm and cozy the whole time, awesome gear and it the same price or less than carhartt.

start with whool socks, not cotton. snowmobile boots, about 100.00 for a good set. wear 2 layers of sweat pants, covered by a desent set of snowmobile bibs. i paid 50.00 for mine on clearance, but the going rate for a desent pair is about 125.00 or so. long john tops, and 2 sets of them. then a snowmobile jacket. i got mine on clearance for 50.00. way low price, but 100.00 can get you a jacket. get a thin full face sock. i got a nylon one, paid 9.00 for it. works ausome. put on a full faced helmet, with a breather insert. a breather insert can be bought if you allready own a full faced helmet. a good set of waterproof gloves, mine are snowmobile, and cost 35.00 heat grips on your quad will help wonders. i have ridden like that for 8 hours, and only stoped to unzip to cool down. this is like this in up to 20 below weather.
good luck. pay the price for the gear, couse you will have it for years. you figure under 400 gets it all, and 10 years later your still happy.

carhartt bibs, long underwear, and the most important...a REALLY good set of gloves. i payed $50 for my gloves but never had numb fingers!!
i did some figuring on a wind chill chart online for our iceracing....-15 air temp. at 60mph is approaching -80!!!!!!
p.s. the more oil covered the carhartts are the more wind proof they are!!

Myself I wear a good pair of wool socks and my boots are Sorel Glaciers rated for -100. I will layer up with fleece. Outer clothing I wear a Mustang floater snowmobile suit. Wool neck warmer and a balaclava under my helmet. I will also stick to good snowmobile mitts. They are warmer then gloves seeing all your fingers are together and not separated. -26 Celsius tonight where I live. -40 with windchill.
