Been having some "digestive" problems for a while, then had some major belly pain that wouldn't go away, so decided to have the doc take a look, turns out my "gas" was a piece of my intestine that had pushed through a tear in the ol' stomach muscle, or in medical terms a hernia. He was able to "push " things back into place,what a relief, but then after an exam, tells me another tear is starting on the other side!! Now I'm scheduling double hernia operation for right after the holidays, not the way I was looking to spend my days off work !! probably won't be riding the quad or the sled ( if we ever get any snow here) for a little while either.

Been there, done that, get the reinforcement fabric installed, no more blow-outs lol. You'll be sore for a few days but it's no big deal.........

 

I went to the doc several years back to fix a hernia I knew I had. He looks at it, checks me out and says, "Ya know, you've got THREE hernias, not just one". Damn. I could do one at a time, or all three at once. Well, who wants to go under the knife at all, so I did all three at once. Man, for a couple days I was hurtin' , but about two weeks later I was back at work and no longer worrying about blowing out my guts.

Thanks for the info on the mesh, it was one of the procedures they recommended, so I guess I'll go with that, the doc said the staple method can re-rip later on. He also asked if I wanted to be awake with just a local for the pain, and I said HELLLLLLLLL NO !!! I'd rather go out and wake up with it done. It will probably be after the first of the year, to get past the holidays, but thanks for all the well wishes and comments ( LT80---- "it's all up from here ", ya, I guess you're right, unless it rips lower !!!!. I'll let ya know in a few weeks how it went, for now, got a few projects in the shed that need to be done first.

 

When I had it done, the doc said even the mesh is not 100% guaranteed, and that stuff can start 'slipping' through in another place if there's a weak spot (and no amount of sit-ups can prevent or fix this - damn). And he originally said they could do it with a 'local'. NOT ME, pal. So I went under too. I don't want to hear all that doctor prattle while they cut me up.

"Nurse, pass me the number 2 scalpel. Hey Bob, nice shot on the nine hole yesterday. You're getting that putt down pat. Ooops, look at the slice there. Damn. Get me some extra sutures so I can patch that up. Nurse, stop that bleeding before we lose this guy. So Bob, how about nine holes this afternoon. I'll go five bucks a stroke..."

 

My boss went under for a 45 min surgury-4hrs and 6 hernias later
He got out of surgery.The biggest was the size of a small cauliflower.
