Deceptive hill pictures
#1
Has anyone ever noticed how flat a hill appears in a picture? I was telling my old lady how steep a hill was that my friend was going up. I took a picture of him trying a VERY steep hill. When I got home I was bragging that he made this hill, and was going to show her the picture of this "nasty hill." I pop it up on the puter screen and the stupid thing looks like my drive-way!!!!
It's just really strange, and VERY embarrassing.

Yeah I had my jeep so twist one time the front pasenger wheel was about 2 feet off the ground, got the pics back and it looked like I was driving over a curb. Then everyone thinks you were telling fish stories.

Possible explanation, When you are filming or photographing a vehicle, your focus is on that vehicle. Most of the time, you are on the same hill that you are taking pics of. So, you properly frame the vehicle on the same incline that you yourself are on, therefore, it looks like you are on almost even ground. If you frame the terrain instead of the vehicle, you will have better results. A tri-pod with a bubble level helps out alot.

I think most point-n-clicks make everything look flat. The more expesive cameras, where you can control depth of field, have better results.
