It's called a DUAL-SPORT bike, and I wish I had one! In Calif., you can no longer take just any old bike and make it street legal. You have to have one that comes street legal from the factory. They say it is beacause of emissions, but it is really just another form of political persecution of the off-road community by the enviro left (political appointees on the Calif. Air Resorces Board). Now, instead of riding your bike from home, you have to load it into a 5,000 lb. truck that gets 10 mpg, and drive to wherever. Some emissions savings, huh!

The choices for from the factory bikes is truly pitiful, with the Suzuki 400 being the best of the lot.

reconranger, you can still convert a off road bike to a street license in ca. It is covered in a clause that concerns home built or home modified machines. It is covered in this thread at KTM TALK

Test ride a Yamaha WR450. I thought about getting one but decided to go with the YZ450 instead.

My experience with dual purpose goes back a few years and was with smaller machines. While it was nice riding on the road to your destination they just weren't as fun once you got there. They were heavier, less powerful and had less suspension than comparable sized off-road bikes. And expensive to repair if you lay it over. Replaced a couple of blinkers in my time. Have things really changed?

They are light years ahead of just 5 years ago. IMO.

As far as actualy street legal one I have only ridden 96's and below. And I agree with Raptorlegs, they just aren't AS fun. But the newer ones could be different.

Now what I call enduro which is not street legal, like MWQ's or a WR450, those are fun and I would recommend. I rode a uncorked WR450 and that thing was really fun and had plenty of power. I rode a thumper "enduro" KTM too, not sure what it was tho and it really had some power. I also hear really good things about the new Honda enduro 450.

If I was going to buy and enduro it would be a hard desicion between the
-Honda 450/ possibly 650R
-WR450
-KTM400 or 525
-DRZ400
so I guess that is about all of them anyways oops, sorry I loovve toys!

I also like the KDX220's even tho they are a bit underpowered stock. I used to own one and loved it, it would go anywhere.
