How does a dirtbike ride compared to a quad?
#1
I messed up my back about 18 months ago. Riding my quad tears me up! The quad is real "choppy" and I'm wondering if a dirtbike would be a better choice for me now? Watching them they do look much smoother over bumps than a quad does cept that they seem to fall over alot.
I've never ridden on 2 wheels to amount to anything. Twisting and pulling doesn't bother me but the choppyness does.

hhhhmmmmm, i dont know how u would feel on a dirtbike. wen you are riding it is very rough and sumtimes it throws you around a lot. i think mabe a quad would be even smoother than a dirtbike but im not sure.

Out of the box, the higher end dirt bikes have excellent suspension. Quads do better in the sand, snow, mud, and rocks, and dirt bikes do better everywhere else. Where you live, a dirt bike would be a great choice.
If I had the $$$$$, I would have a CRF250X and a CRF450X (or maybe an XR400), plus some kind of dual-sport bike, as well as my quads!

Having less and narrower wheels, the bikes aren't as tiring. The larger wheel size also helps you roll over larger holes. Still choppy though, and the degree of that will depend on the bike/suspension set up. At least you wouldn't be fighting the ruts and bumps through the bars as much. There are a few downfalls though, such as smaller pegs, usually a firmer seat, less stability, and it takes a lot more skill to ride a bike fast. Decent bikes can be had used for fairly cheap though. Maybe it is time to switch to an IRS model quad?

You just need a new quad. Bikes require a lot of body english and are nothing compared to the ride of a new quad. Try riding one of the new big bore quads and see what you're missing.

I prefer a dirt bike to a quad, but its mainly because of where you cant take a quad. I do think the dirt bike will beat you up less than hanging on to a quad. But it will be easier to fall off of a dirt bike than a quad.

Dirtbikes are smoother for the most part, unless you ride tracks, which i dont expect considering you have a bad back. But on a dirtbike you soak a lot of the bumps and landings with your legs. so it doesnt affect your back too much.
