DC Electricity....

Most heavy construction equipment runs on 24v starting and charging systems... The 24v is generated by connecting two 12 volt batteries in series..
Series... V(t)= V(1)+V(2)+V(3)+ ETC....
in other words.. if you wired six 12volt batteries in series you would have a total of 72 volts at the tap...
In general, your skin has enough insulation to withstand about 55-60 volts... unless you are wet, sweaty, have "thin skin" or a cut/burn.
As far as low voltages being able to shock you... my D/C Electricity Instructor lit sevreal "gineau pigs" with a simple 9volt battery... I wish I could remember how he did that... I could have some fun with the ex-wife!!!

No problem Bill. I am still not sure it would work. In order to get a shock, you would still need to complete a circuit. For example you would have to be touching the positive and the negative at the same time. With A/C, however, I think you only need to be "grounded". Birds ate therefore not electricuted when sitting on power lines. (what a mess if they were)

Hey SCman:

I have been looking for one of the cable locks that have an alarm built in. You mentioned you saw one at K-Mart. I went to my K-Mart and couldn't find one. Could you please help me out with a brand name, item number, section of the store the lock is in, etc.? I would really appreciate it!

As far as alarms are concerned, does anyone have any ideas for an alarm for my Banshee? My Banshee was stolen several months ago, but I got it back. Fortuntaley, I had insurance and they paid to restore it. Some type of motion detector alarm would have prevented it from being stolen. Since it doesn't have a battery to support an alarm, what do I do?

Thanks!

Rob,
Next time I am at "The K", I will get the info and email it to ya.

My quad stays locked in my shed, inside fenced back yard, which is also locked due to the pool. Also have motion detector lights. But you can never be too careful. :-)

(How DO people do those smiley faces anyway?)

I know some of you musta heard of the Lojax Security system, where when/if your car gets stolen there is like a little computer they put on it and the police have a computer to track down where your car is. im not sure if you can do this with quads buts its worth it to look into.

I did see an alarm that hooks up to your atv/dirtbike and if it is stolen the cops or the maker of the alarm can trace it. It was about a year ago in dirtwheels when I saw it. When I get home I'll look for the ad. BTW to make the do it the same way but leave the nose off. Let's see if this works <IMG SRC="http://forums.atvconnection.com/ubb/redface.gif"> or this

Hey those electric fences are 12V, and man can they bite. How is this different from being hooked to a door? I can only imagine what I would feel like if you had a couple of batteries hooked in a series.

Lojack is a Great system, only it is only available for Major Metropolitan areas (Detroit,Chicago, etc). Not available where most of these thefts are occuring.
The other system from the magazine is simply a microchip used to help identify your quad after it is recovered with the numbers ground off. It is an electric gun you point at the quad and it activates the chip to reveal the registration number issued for that chip which is registered to your quad. Not much use in recovering your quad unless it has already been seized by law enforcement with no serial number and you personally request the company to try it.
