Helmets

You might also want to check out the Snell Foundation - their studies indicate that approximately 40% or so (forgive me for not having the exact figure) of motorcycle fatalities would be alive today if they had worn helmets. In my neck of the woods I would say that figure would be increased for ATV's due to the fact that going head first into a pine tree would be the most obvious cause of the fatality! To be perfectly honest, I don't think there is anything anyone could ever say to convince me not to wear a helmet.

Geez... Dreamofpolaris. Where do people like you come from. If you imagine your head as a melon and you drop to the ground while moving at almost any speed, the melon will receive damage. If you take the melon and put it in a helmet and drop it in the same manner little or no damage will occur. As I said yesterday I have fallen (19) times road racing plus twice on the street and untold times in the dirt. I have split helmets in half, ground them down and just plain cracked them up. It is inconcievible to me that your miniscule knowlege of helmet use is from someone elses stories. I recomend finding out the truth before you get hurt. I know for sure my head would be ground pulp and I would be DEAD with out my helmets. My fav choices so far are Arai and Shoei. However they tend to focus on racing and street helmets. My ATV helmet is a down hill ski racing helmet from Bloeri (axxis).
Ask one of the quite knowlege regular contributors for help choosing a helmet suitable to you. Get one so we can still have you around to argue with in the future.
Lids are cool, wear one.

Dream of Polaris, you are a complete, uninformed idiot! Helmets do not kill, and your dad's friend was merely lucky. Helmets are not only for impact against tree's you know. If my brother had not been wearing his helmet on one rainy day, he would be dead. We were out jumping dirt bikes (sorry) in the sand, off of a small kicker jump. He went off the jump, the bike nosed down, and he went over the bars. No big deal, except the bike landed on his head, Keep in mind we were taking this jump in 4th, and were on 250's. His O'neal helmet now has a huge circular scratch in the side where the sprocket ground on it, and the mouthpiece is broke from impact with the sand. Get a clue, and get a helmet. Then go get a Quad.
