Collett Communicators
#2
Hello rooster have you ever thought about making your ham license for communications it is a simple test and the radios cost anywhere from $100 to $200 for the hand helds. They are set up on repeaters so that you can talk to anyone in the whole county usually using only 1 to 5 watts of power they also have a phone set up on them that you dial in a special code that brings up a dial tone. This is achieved by everyone paying dues of about $20 a year to use phone access. You also have 100's of private channels from 144 meg to 148 megahertz to talk to buddys within 500 to 2000 feet or more depending on conditions. Being a radio nut I can assure you, you would be more happy going this way if you want to go through the extra effort cause the radios you buy in the stores or on the net are nothing more than portable CB's this frequency was not even designed to talk locally it has just caught on because it has been able to be used by the public without license. If you or anybody else would like info on making your license email me or leave message on here...It is one of the greatest things I have on my ATV for emergency or calling home while out on a ride.

But does this require that you hold it to use it? Cause I'm talking about the Collett Communicators because they mount on your helmet and you can talk to someone (or multiple people) while you ride and without using your hands, they stay on the handlebars. We usually have a bunch of ATV's on our annual rides we go on, which last time we had 11 ATV's. I think the front person and the last person would benefit the most with these mounted in their helmets. The front can telll the back person if there's an obstacle coming, oncoming machine, etc. And the back can let the person in the front know that everyone's keeping up and noone is having troubles.

Sure matter of fact I have a set myself that mount to a headset which hooks into the radio mounted on your four wheeler it is voice activated comparing this to being able to talk to other atv's, using it to talk anywhere in the county in case you need help or just talking back home plus you can use it as a phone....
