Chain lube
#2
Any kind of real chain lube should stay on the chain when applied right. I've used both Bardahl and PJ1 and they have their advantages and disadvantages. The PJ1 makes less of a mess, it isn't as sticky and none of it flings off. It doesn't seem to last as long as the Bardahl lube, which is thicker, stickier, and messier. The bardahl stands up to water better than PJ1 also. It's just a real pain in the @ss to get off your swingarm and everything else after you apply it. My suggestion for that is to lay down newspaper on the swingarm and surrounding parts before you spray it on, and let it set for 10 or 15 minutes before you ride again.

Never use anything? You don't have to lube an o-ring chain? If so, that's new to me. Why would they make o-ring safe chain lub if there's no reason to? I've always had o-ring or x-ring chains and i always use chain lube on them.

I forgot the figures but it's something like 90% of wear occures between the rollers and the pins. When this happens, the chain stretches and gets longer and then the sprocket valleys do not line up with the rollers. There is no way to get lube in between the pins and rollers on an O ring chain because it's sealed.
I live around a volcanic area. I have seen chain go away in a matter of days if someone uses a sticky chain lube on them. If you use a sticky chain lube where I live you might as well brush some valve grinding compound on the chain.

This is the first time I ever heard someone say that you don't need to lube a chain. The biggest chain issue where I live is riding in water. I use lube to preserve the o-rings so they don't wear out and let water into the rollers, and to keep the chain and sprockets from rusting. If I didn't use lube my chain would be a solid strip of rust within a month.
