I bought my first quad about a year and a half ago and began checking out the various sites for best content, technical issues, reports and opinions from numerous owners on their quads. I found this site and was immediately impressed with the level of knowledge and caliber of the forums users. I have noticed that in the past 3-6 months, that almost every post ends up turning into a personal or attack/defend type of conversation.

I used to go online and read posts about folks informing others who might be mistaken about how differentials work, how various manufacturers react to the market, etc. It was usually done politely and in an informational format. I'm not talking about the kids talk where you can hardly get through a sentence without at least 5 misstatements of fact or 5 spelling mistakes. I expect that from 12-17 year olds. I'm talking about how a post is made, and responses are made, and by the time the 5th-10th response is read, you don't even know what the original post was.

I may just be noticing it more, but I know there seems to be more fluff and less stuff being discussed. I may be wrong...but I know I used to be able to spend at least 1-2 hours about once or twice a week just reading the new posts, and now I can hardly go an hour without saying to myself,"lay off the attacks, get to the good stuff". Maybe I am losing interest...maybe I'm getting old...maybe I should sell all 3 quads and buy a snowmobile...wait, I bought a snowmobile and there's no snow. I guess I'll keep the quads and hope you guys restore my faith in the forum.

Has the quality decreased? Sure it has...but you have to look back six months ago when there were only 500 members compared to the near 5000 we have now. The range of informative posts compared to the "chat room style" of posts has made a dramatic flip-flop for the worse. The major topics have all been saturated since the new ubb has taken over and there aren't many quality subjects left besides the everyday maintenence questions that are a vital part of the forums. Don't get me wrong, I have alot of fun in here and it's a great stress relief. It has to remain fun or you wouldn't look forward to logging on, right? Point taken though, stick to the topic at hand and leave the chatting and bashing where it belongs.

The forums were pretty nice the "old" way. They switched to this "new" software, and it went downhill from there. This is pretty much a "which one is faster" forum now.
Oh well, it is still the best on the 'net. That is, if you have time to sift through all the irrelevance, (this post included).

The old forum was pretty much the same as it is in here now. The only difference was that there weren't as many people in it. People still had top speed arguements, people still bashed other quads, and people still got kicked off the forum. Its just the same thing now on a larger scale. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Hands off is the best policy. The moderators will take care of the trash here, and for the people that can't stand the smart remarks and bashing, just don't get in on it. I have found that if you don't provoke others, then they tend not to bash you or reply with harsh remarks.

EXtreme,

You make a good point. ATVConnection has grown to be a very large forum. I don't know whether the overall quality has diminished, or whether low quality threads have increased proportionately to the growing membership.

I think the choice is to tolerate the problems of a large forum, or join a smaller one. I think you can find this and other similar forums in ATV Pages, such as <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/nc2/steelrider/"> STEEL RIDERS</a>. I guess its like choosing to be a big fish in a small pond, or staying a small fish in a big one. Overall, this forum has much to offer.

However, I recommend changes to the present set-up. The "Where to Ride" topic has grown to be a large mish-mash of threads. The topic is not categorized by State or Region, and an interested member may have to go through several pages of topics without knowing if what he wants is even there.

I believe there should be a comical topic for things like or Pasqualie's <a href="http://forums.atvconnection.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000100.html">What a Dumb Thing To Do. That might let people know they need not take themselves so seriously when viewing the thread. It would also let us know where to go for a laugh.

I would also like to see a topic for Related Social Issues. There is a place for arguments about litigation and ATVs, as well as how legislation or Presidential Initiatives may affect the rights of ATVers. Perhaps, we would see threads such as the contentious or Atving's <a href="http://forums.atvconnection.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000204.html">When the cops come after you...just pull over.

I would also like to see a topic about nothing but riding - just riding. Maybe it would have threads such as Andy Bashamm's or Swamp Monster's <a href="http://forums.atvconnection.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000205.html">Mud Riding Techniques.

I also suggest a topic for bashing. Another forum has a topic called "crank it up." It is for members who want to let off steam, or engage in a bashing contest. The name-calling members could find a home there and leave our other threads untouched.

By making such changes, the forum would make it easier to find what we want. We would not have to weed through so many messages and threads.

Just an opinion. Any other suggestions?

I was just about to say what Jeremy said.

I am 15 years of age and I have a larger vocabulary than a lot of adults. I am also more mechanically inclined than most adults.
If you do not believe me read some of my previous posts on this forum.

I am not mad.
I am not upset but I do think adolescents are far too often stereotyped into "dumb" or "incompotent".

Just because we are young does not mean we do not have good grammar or can not type well.

I am not saying you stereotype people, but I do understand where you are coming from. 95 percent of the people at my school have no idea what a torque wrench is and do not know how to use an impact wrench. (I know I got a little off of the subject here but most "kids" are pretty damn dumb)

Ok. back to the typing.
Some kids actually are smart.

Enough of that topic...

I do agree with the originator of this topic that most posts end up being a quarrel between two people with a bad inferiority complex. These are the people that must "bash" other peoples quads to feel secure about the quad they bought.

I am going to quit typing now, but please NO hard feelings about any of this post. I am also sorry if I offended anyone.

AMA 99 Sportsman Any Questions...ASK

P.S. This post was written by a 15 year 10 month old person. (I had to add that)

Have a nice day!
