The DS-650 is cleanin house.

OK, OK,
Is the DS cleanin house. Probably not. What I do think is that multiple500's first statement says it best:"Well if the DS has contributed anything here it is contaversey, bragging, and denial." THat pretty much sums it up. Before we heard about the DS, it was talk about a 400Yamaha quad (now possibly 2002), but who woulda thunk an up and comer like Bombardier would have unleashed a 650cc(if limited, so far) bad boy. So my original point still stands. What is Honda, Kawa, Yama, and Suzi goin to do?

VENOMOUS: I don't appreciate personal attacks & miss quotes of my posts. I don't know who is be accused of bragging, but I have been asked to give my impression of the DS650 now that I own one. I won't comment on the type of life a person must have that owns an '89 banshee in the year 2000. Enough aleady?

I think the DS should have been out sooner, think about all the people out there with the 400ex, these are the people who would have bought the DS, and I don't think they will trade up for a machine thats a little faster, and sits higher. Can the DS pull top gear wheelies like the 400EX? Does it have the cool sound of the Banshee? Maybe it will start more competition in the class, and maybe Yamaha will finaly look at their old sport atvs and update them, like their utilities

(I think the DS should have been out sooner, think about all the people out there with the 400ex, these are the people who would have bought the DS, and I don't think they will trade up for a machine thats a little faster, and sits higher.)
Au contraire, I know many people that stayed off of the 400EX bandwagon to wait and see what Yamaha or Kawie came out with, the DS was a nice surprise and they are seriously considering it.
(Can the DS pull top gear wheelies like the 400EX?)
More than likely, although in the short time I got to ride one it shredded the grass of the field I was on and never got up. I'm sure I could get it up on pavement.
(Does it have the cool sound of the Banshee?)
While it doesn't have the wail of a Banshee it is the best sounding four stroke I have heard
(Maybe it will start more competition in the class, and maybe Yamaha will finaly look at their old sport atvs and update them, like their utilities)
Hopefully, I can't wait until a YZ400 powered quad, if it ever comes.

Apparently I was wrong! The DS-650 kicks butt on the track. Dirt wheels magazine took a totally stock DS0650, a project Honda 600(with 600XR motor), and a TOTALLY race 250R(They did not even waste there time on the 400 ex or Banshee, the DS would have killed thme both) The DS-650 was the slowest of the group around track recording lap times of aroung only 3 seconds slower that the FULL RACE 250r and only 1 second behind the Project quad. Dirt wheels praised the DS for its suspension and power delivery. Now lets get back to the price tag of these machines. For $10,000.00 you get a race ready 250R. The Project quad had no price, but with a Laeger frame and full bore suspension, you can be assured it cost more than the DS. So for a stock machine (the DS) that had NO mods whatsoever was only 3 seconds behind is impressive to say the least. I guess Maybe the DS- is not yet cleaning house, but come summertime, it may start cleaning up, 1st place trophies that is...

I want to say first off that it is great that
the DS has entered the atvsport market. All it will do help make the competition even better and help the future quads get even better! The DS is going to shine in the sand...thats where its ment to be. Its to wide for most woods riding. And as for MX..for the local stuff it'd be great...with all that travel i know till eat me stock (tcs sag control shocks on the way) 400ex up, but i don't see it competing well in the pro ranks...they'll all continue to race 250r chassies...also how wide is the DS? 50" is the legal AMA limit...and someone made the comment that the DS would smoke a 250 2-stroke quad if someone was to start producing one again, well the 1989 250r make something like 34hp....a 2000 cr250 makes 44hp and a 44hp 2-stroke will smoke the DS. The DS is a good quad, but Bombardier, Honda, Yamaha i think could all still do better...The sport maket is getting better every year!

The local racing potential was more of my train of thought when I talked about the DS cleaning up. I dont see anything unseating the 250r on the NAtional ciruit anytime soon, but hey , give the ds 1-2 years, who knows...

I can pull 5th gear wheelies in the snow, I don't use the clutch, I get the rpm just right and gas it and pull back. I know of a lot of 400EXs out there, when you don't get any new machines in the sport class for 6 years people are gonna buy the first machine that gets good ratings by the magazines.
