I know many of you guys use a digital camera for taking pictures when riding.

What camera (brand & model) do you suggest & why?

thanks

I don't have one yet, but have been looking into them a lot here lately. I'm leaning towards the Sony. I can't remember the model number off the top of my head, however retail price on it is $600.

I borrow my dads sony mavica. I like it because it takes .mpg, and the pics go onto floppy. It is only good for taking pics for internet because it doesn't have very high resolution. It is older, and the max res is 1024x768. Not much good for printing pics or enlarging them. Not all the Mavicas will do .mpg, so watch out.

I am not sure about the current cameras out there, but I have a Kodak DC260(I think that is the model). It has been a great camera for me. I use a Pelican Case (SCUBA divers use these) to keep it dry.

I have a Canon Powershot S10.
The pics are great, colors actual, and focus almost always what I wished.
It stores them in .jpg format, sizes possible are 1600x1200, 1280x960 or 800x600. The storing card is 8Mo, but you can get 128Mo. On the 8Mo, I can take 12 1600x1200 pics, sometimes 13.
If you want I can email you some of the nicest pics (you'll see what it looks like). For the colors, you can look on my website, but they are resized.
Get a good bag though. I wasted mine with a dirt throw, and I had to wait for it to be repaired for 3 months. Protect it...maybe more than a standard camera.

Hope this helps.

I own the Sony Mavica and am very pleased with it, it takes good pictures and if you use photo paper they print out quite nice. It isn't as high of a clarity that you may receive with the more expensive cameras but you wouldn't be afraid to hang one on the wall. The best part is that you use a 3 1/2 floppy for storage which are cheap to buy and easy to store or carry. The drawback as I see it to the other cameras are that the flash cards are quite expensive and you need more than one for a full weekend of picture taking, I take alot of photos.

I'm partial to Olympus cameras myself. Have a C-3030 on order. This is a high end, amateur camera. Very high resolution, with too many features to mention. Yet the camera is small and compact.

Another midrange model is the D-490Z. Less resolution, a few less features, but half the price, around $400 - $450. I highly recommend this camera.

Both units use flash cards, not floppies like the Sony's. I understand the flash cards are more expensive, hovever they can hold over 30 times that of a floppy disk, depending on the size card you get. And you can purchase a "Floppy Adapter" that allows any PC to read the flash card.

Just remember to get a good case for travel. And some cameras have waterproof "shells" you can purchase that allow the camera to be used in harsh outdoor enviroments.

Check out these links. They provide valuable information on digital cameras.

Good luck.

I bought a Polaroid (something model?) off a friend here at work. This digital camera takes great shots. Has a veriaty of resolutions to pic from and looks great. I have a bigger card in it now and can take up to 99 pics in low res and around 24 in high res. When pics are blown up they still keep the good look.
You can see some at my site below in my sig.

BTW the camera only cost me $200.

I just bought an outfit for our club: Olympus D360L camera (1.3 Mp), Olympus USB Smartmedia Reader, AC adapter, Otterbox waterproof and crushproof box. Grand total of $412.99 for everything.

If you want to see some of the pictures I've taken with it here is a link http://www.windrockatv.com/ride_pics...wATV/ulthm.htm

Click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger version. At the 1280 x 960 I can shoot 36 images on the standard card.

The camera, reader and power adapter came from thecameraclub.com and the Otterbox came from cases4less.com

If you only need the camera for shooting shots for a web site, you don't need to go over 1.3 Mega Pixels. Anything more, and the images will be too large for rapid downloads.

Good luck,
