Integrity or Ratting?
#1
While riding at Michaux State Forest nearby, I was faced with a difficult decision. Two jerks were at the gravel parking lot to the trails, tearing it up. They were ripping through the parking lot throttle pegged without helmets, and doing doughnuts. There were a lot of people there that particular day, especially a lot of kids. They were ripping through that parking lot with no regard to the children and other riders there. They finally went over to their vehicle on the other side of the tree line just as the park ranger showed up. He came over to me and asked if I knew the whereabouts of two quads tearing up the parking lot. I was a little hesitant at first, but I pointed them out. I started thinking to myself, these are the kind of people that get land for us to ride on taken away. I really don't like ratting on people, but I felt I had an obligation to do so. Did I make the right decision? What would you have done?

Let me answer your question with a question.
What if you didn't tell the ranger who did it and the next day they busted out a windshield or rocked out a brand new truck.....................or God forbid; hit a kid in the lot.
How would you have felt if you didn't tell the ranger the the day before?
PS: If they did that around me with my kid in the parking lot they would have had a lot more to worry about than a ticket form a ranger!!!!!!!
I think you know you did the right thing. Thanks for all of us that have kids and like to keep our riding areas open.

You did the right thing. Its not ratting when people are stupid. Thats how we lose places to ride and people get hurt. And Dr turbo is right, if my kid would have been there I would have been going to jail.

It's good to know that the people that are on here are solid minded and would have done the same thing. Trust me, next time there will be no hesitation, and my son was there with me, we were just relaxing at the time. Thanks for the support. I want to make sure there are places to ride for my youngest one when I go to take him for his safety test.

Yup, did the right thing. I just don't get people that have to tear around in the common areas when the trails are right around the corner anyway.

Not to make this a heavy answer to the question, but we had a problem on 9/11 partially because people were "too polite" to speak up and/or take action. One should always stand up for what's right and should be done and never "not be involved".
