Bead blasting is about the same as sand blasting, but it doesn't rough up the surface as badly. It will remove any polishing that you may have done.
Check the yellow pages under "Sandblasting Equipment and Supplies". 3M makes a Scotchbrite wheel for a bench grinder or buffer. They're great for removing paint and light corrosion prior to buffing out the parts, as they don't leave deep scratches.

If you have a blasting case, I would highly suggest walnut shells. They produce a lot of dust and you won't want to breathe it. They do a wonderful job and won't warp the metal like sand.
This will strip any paint or powder coating you may have. But, it leaves an excellent surface prior to polishing.
Eastwood company has an excellent selection.
