WTF Happened to SX Ticket Prices!
I was going to be headed up to Detroit for the Supercross race this weekend until I saw the ungodly jump in ticket prices. I used to buy them at my local MX shop for $22, now they were $69 or $80? What the hell happened? I will admit that the others that I went to were in the Silverdome which is definetly not Ford Field nice but come on. Why would I pay that much to see James Stewart win by 25 seconds. I paid $20 to see Carmicheal, McGrath, a young and healthy Pastrana and Chad Reed really go at it, now $80 for a runaway, no thanks. Ticketmaster sucks!

WTF Happened to SX Ticket Prices!
Amazing huh?
I went to the Giants Stadium SX from 87-90, and in 1990 the tickets were around $20 give or take ....
Of course that was before McGrath added "Showtime" to SX races and brought in the masses.... After that the boom was started...
The top guys now are raking in some nice salaries, and the industry is booming. You had to expect the prices of tickets to reach into the clouds sooner or later. It's $50-$60 to go see any of the MX Nationals these days, and they only draw about 30-40% of what SX draws....
You have to figure that this is about the going rate for things that only come to town once a year. Think about the people in Anaheim, they get 3 chances to see a race and they can't get any breaks on prices because they sell 70,000 tickets a race........
BTW you were getting a very good price for $22 even back then. I can recall looking into hitting one of the SX races in McGrath's final season and they were going for $40-$50 anywhere I looked...
