Street legal in Tennesee
#1
I can't drive a car(perception/nerves) I can ride a bike but I dislike motorbikes been looking into ATVs since they would be prefect for me,but it would seem they are the most hated vehicle being stuck between a car and a motorcycle(with the enthusiasts on both ends snubbing the hell out of it).
I am in TN the Dunlap area its rural enough and I see them on the back roads all the time but I want to take mien to town and get groieres and such with.
I am gettign to the point to just waste 500 on a motorized bike and be done with it but I would rather see what I can get fist... any help would be...helpful

i'm not sure..i would just contact your local DOT...just email them..
most rural areas will let you drive on the road with a simple ATV street legal kit which includes a horn, turn signals, and a brake light

ATV's are not really legal on any TN roads. You will see some riders on rural roads that are near trails. Technically it's still not legal but it's one of those things where in most cases nobody cares. Seems that it's "OK" to cross a road near a trail or in some cases drive on a road between trails. The thing is, you could still be charged, especially if there was an accident involved. Not going to work to drive it into town and get groceries though - bottom line is that it's still not legal to drive on the roads so you're not going to get to use it like a vehicle for long until the law gets you.

There is one part of TN where you can ride an ATV on county road's even on paved county road's , In Benton TN you can ride your ATV on the road's that lead to many of the trail's and even into town for fuel and food ! I have a cousin and a good freind that live's in Benton , me and my cousin's brother hauled out quad's to his home in benton ; i didn't believe it myself untill we rode into town to fill our wheeler's and gas jug;s with gas and bought some groceries . While we at the store a State Trouper and a Deputy Sheriff car stopped at the store while we were still there , my cousin asked both the State Trouper and Deputy Sheriff if it was alright to ride on the county two lane blacktop to and from the store or to the trail's we were going riding . They both told us it was ok as long as we weren't speeding or wreakless driving or driving under the infulense of drug's or alcohol ; from sunup till sunset ! But that's basicly in the county only , and you are required to wear a helmet and a hunter safety orange vest or jacket ; this has been over 5 years ago since then ! But me and my brother went riding at Prentiss cooper game reserve and there are over 200 miles of trails and you can ride all of the road's that take go to each trail , the only rule here is there is a 25 mph speed limit on the roads going to the trail , as well as all the trail's have the same 25 mph speed limit as well ; and they have ranger's out in frose with their handheld speed gun's ! You don't ever know they're there unstill you break the law , and riding is from sunrise to sunset ! They offer free camping with water and sevral port a pottie's ! If you do deside to camp at one off the campsite's they lock the gate after dark so you're lockin untill morning ; except for emergencies they will let you out because they have a Ranger post that are manned day and night ! This is one of my brother's favorite place's to ride because you can ride from sun up to sun set without going over the same tral twice ! And 25 mph in just fine for me , i still like to ride the trail system's near my home town , they're not long trail's ( Loop type trails ) but there's no speed limit's and you ride them even after dark ! ...................williebee
