Paying for gas ?$?$?$
#21
TORK it's $3.16 and just 60 miles south it's $2.92 a gallon , if i were you i would drive down there and buy a gallon !( Just kidding you ) !
I had company here when i was checking the post on gas prices , he was curious of what the price was in TN ; and it got me thinking about what my Uncle told me my Dad use to tell him about how cheap gas was in TN and North Ga. !
My uncle Bud told me that my Dad told him gas was ten cent's a gallon less than in the town in Ga. where we lived about 28 miles from the GA. TN state line , my Dad would tell Uncle Bud i think i will go up there and buy a gallon ; and it would make Bud laugh so hard tear's would come out of his eye's !
But all kidding aside A cousin and myself ran a full service station that was owned by The US Oil Company called The Bay Station , when The Oil Company that owned a full service station called the Kayo had a gas war ; the Kayo would drop a penney below the Bay Station we would call Atlanta and tell them of the drop in price !
They would tell to go a penney below the Kayo , and the Kayo would drop a penney below us ; we would call Atanta they would say drop our price a penney below the Kayo it went on like this for a month !
Untill the US Oil Company told us to drop the price every time the Kayo did , without calling them every time the price dropped ; i remember when gas got down to 005.9 cent's a gallon !
And the gas war lasted all summer and didn't end untill the Goverment stepped in with a price freeze , if it hadn't been stopped they would've had to pay people to let the station's give it away ; just these 2 Huge Independant Oil Companies fighting to be the biggest and trying to bankrupt the other !
The Big Oil Companies got the Federal Government to stop this gas war that was killing their Buissness , but before the gas war the price on gas was 24.9 a gallon for regular leaded gasoline ; 4 gallon's for a dollar !
The Independant Oil Companies were putting the hurt on the Huge Oil Companies like Shell , Texico , Gulf , Chevron , Exxon ; Esso and a few i can't remember them all ; but these i have typed out felt the sting they were getting from all the Independant Companies that were cutting into their proffits !
And it wasn't long before the oil shortage's and long lines at the gas pump's in California , and across the country were seeing ; there were plenty of gas and oil ; the big Oil Conpanies were using this excuse to make up the money they lost in the late 60's and early70's fron all the Independant Oil Companies !
But the minumum wage back then was only $1.10 or $1.15 an hour , but still you could get a lot of gas at that price compared to the price of a gallon cost you today ! What do you think ? ........
