Default RIDER QUALIFICATION

Need to understand trail/rider ratings. Seen beginner-intermediate-etc. What are the 'things' that make up the different ratings?

? Either that went way over my head or I didn't ask the question right. All I have to do is post a lot and I'll be an expert rider?

The issue is that we're thinking about doing an ATV jamboree this summer and want to know which rides to sign up for - what makes an expert ride/rider an expert, what makes an intermediate ride/rider an intermediate.

LOL DCMAC, I thought you were talking about the tags on the forums as well.

As far as what you are really asking, it really is up to you to determine if you can handle the "expert" trails. It sounds like you are new to riding, so you may want to stay on the more intermediate trails. With time you will know what you can handle.

BTW, I've been wanting to go to the ATV Jamboree for some time now, looks like one heck of an ATV event.

If you are new to the sport a ATV safety training class should have been offered .by ASI

No matter how good or experienced one may be, there is always a trail out there that is better than you are!!!

I would make some inquiries about things like whether 4wd is required, etc. If you aren't sure, probably start out with an intermediate ride just to get the flavor of the other riders and terrain, then decide if you want to try something more challenging.

Yes, we're new to it. Mostly use them for working around the "farm" pulling a little cargo trailer moving dirt, feed & hauling brush to the burn pile. And riding the grandkids around the yard. Knocks the socks off the old lawn mowing tractors we've used the past 20+ years. Took the riding course in Aug (would have done it anyway without the Honda rebate, that we put into new helmets). Most of our joy riding so far has been on woods trails or river beds. We don't have any interest in tackling expert technical riding for the sake of doing it, would rather go on scenic trail rides. Want to do 1 or 2 of the Jamborees in 08 instead of the motorcycle rallies we usually go to.

I've been riding ATVs for about ten years now and I don't go on the "difficult" or "expert" rated trails. Call me a wuss if you want, but I just have too much to loose. Friends of ours lost a son years ago to an ATV accident and I guess that made me more conservative than most. I guess the main idea is start out slow and go until you get scared, then don't go any further.
