Default Just how strong are tailgate cables?

Quad and me are over 900 when I drive up into the back of my trucks. 2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD HD 4x4 and my wifes 2002 F150 V6. Never had a problem.

I've got a 95 chevy, and I had to replace the cables after one snapped while loading. Luckily, it was only one, so I didnt crash to the ground. They were both rusted and freyed, so as long as you inspect them now and then...I think you will be ok. I got the new ones from the infamous ebay for around 10-15 bucks.

Default Just how strong are tailgate cables?

I also worried about that on my 04 Colorado. My solution was to make a set of safety chains that I attached to the upper tie down hole and a hole that was on the tail gate. That way if a cable does break hopefully these will hold to prevent the tailgate from falling down.I made them out of some s hooks and a piece of chain cut to lenght.I just install and remove them when I need them.
