Default Just how strong are tailgate cables?

I've been using my landscape trailer for hauling my quad, but now that I bought my wife one for herself, to haul both I'll have to put one in the back of the truck. I just wonder just how much weight those tailgate cables will hold? I have a 2002 Chev Avalanche 3/4 ton, but the Chev dealer can't give me any specs as to how much the cables will hold. Her bike plus my weight would be just over 700#, and I'd sure hate to hear a snap going up the ramps Comments?

They will hold your quads just fine. Only thing to watch for is if they are rusted and start to frey, they cold snap, but on a '02 I doubt they are like that. Even if so you can get new ones at AtuoZone or the like for somewhere around 15-20 bucks.

this way it's less of a incline, works well but you do need two ramps. be sure you strap or attach the ramp that go's to the truck bed for safety.

Yep, you should be fine.

When you load it, you put more weight on them anyway. So if they gonna go, it would be as you're going up the ramp.

My wife and I were just discussing that. We couldn't recall whether the recall was on the Avalanche or my Ford F150. The cables were changed on one or the other. At 69, the memory banks don't work as well as they used to.

Good Lord, that scared me to death !!!!!! I couldn't see the tailgate, but if they were on it, then my cables should be able to handle what I want to load

The Chevy cable recall affected the '02 model year, maybe others. I got the new style cables plus a refund for the non stainless steel set that I had to buy for my '02 Silverado. Original set rusted through and broke. Not sure if the recall hit the Avalanch but if they are not the stainless versions it will be pretty obvious by now - just check the cables for rust and fraying.

Thanks. Then it must have been the '02 Avalanche that we had the cables replaced through the recall. They look like new, so I'm not going to do much worrying about them snapping.
Cheers.
