I have both in cars, not on the trail. I prefer the Garmin by far

I use it everyday, all day long, and it's more accurate and many more features that I use than the Magellan. Just my $02..............

I got a magellan explorist 210 for x-mas. I got it as a gift to use on trails and on my boat. So far I like it, but I have never owned another one, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I am just about to order a mount from RAM for my handlebars, (sucks keeping it in my pocket)! I am excited to try it on the water this spring to mark wrecks and stuff. If possible go to a retailer where you can hold it and check out all the features, then try to find the best price online. Definetly shop around, they all do the same thing, and from what I know they have about the same accuracy. Good Luck.

I like Garmin menu system better, my buddy has the Magellan and it just doesn't appeal to me.
I did find a cool but pricey gps unit by Garmin called the Colorado.
I'm looking for reviews about it.

I'm late to the game....

I had a Garmin eTrex Venture (the transparent green one). It did ok. The only problem I had is it liked to shut off when things got rough. This seems to be comon across all GPS units. I got it as a toy, then the quad months later. I knew after the quad I wanted mapping.

Now, after the Venture dearly departed us I have another Garmin a Legend Cx. A lot nicer. Seems to be handling rough stuff better, but I haven't taken it anywhere really rough yet. Has the ability to upload custom maps.

As far as mounts, I always wanted a RAM, seemed really nice. Though this fall I found some serious looking mounts made by Touratech. They even have locking mounts if you have the need. Though they run about $120. A bit more pricey. RAM is about $40 through the same company. Though if you don't have a crossbar, some fabbing might be necessary.

I have Magellan for both car and atv. From my experience, I dont much care for them. The off-road one is a bit complicated at times and the one for my car glitches alot.

I've checked out the Garmin and they seem to be more user friendly.

I have a Garmin eTrex Vista HCX and from all the research I did, its the most bang for the buck. Remember that if you want to do anything other than just track, you have to buy some maps to load into the thing. I bought the Topo USA and it is quite good. Its cool to ride a trail and then overlay that on the topo map. I like the Vista cause it also has the compas and barometer. I use it for mountain biking right now, but this summer it will spend some quality time on my (soon to be purchsed) quad.

Great unit, expandable, small, good battery life...like I said, most bang for you your buck.

Well here is my view..........None of the above..........Lowrance H2OC.......Hands down no Question about it in my book!!!!!!...I used them all .........Larger screen easier to use........More detail.......S/D card Topo Maps already pre-loaded.......Buttons on the front.----.For easy access on and driving the Quad!!........R.A.M mount capable if bought separtely...........12 volt cord with unit so back-light will be on while plugged into the Quad!!............Caper.........

Look it up do some research and then tell me which one you want!!!
