The braking was ok, and the steering got HORRIBLE when it started hopping. It always had a little shake to it but not much. But today, it was just unreal. It was fine this morning.

Might want to look at the shocks, especially since you say it was hopping. Almost sounds like one is broken.

Well, cost is tough on this. Had an old Toyota truck, and they were 16 bucks a piece. Seeing that the jeep was designed to take a little more abuse, they may be more. How much, I don't know, but you can check Autozone, PepBoys and other parts stores websites for cost.
Replacement isn't that hard at all, but you will need to get an alignment on it when your done.
