Default Too many models

Hello,
I am new to this forum, and to ATV's. I previously owned a dual-sport motorcycle, which I took off-roading. However, I prefer an ATV. Anyhow, I am starting to do some research, and am interested in purchasing an ATV in the near future.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about ATV's, so I am looking for advice on what models to check out. I want something with AWD, about 500HP, and green/cammo. I am not sure if I want a sport, utility, or what model. This is where I could use some help.

I just want something to buzz around on the trails, with some decent hills. I would like to have room to carry cargo for camping, and stuff too.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm assuming that you meant 4wd and 500 cc's.

The 500 cc market is filled with great bikes from most of the major manufacturers. I'd pick up a few magazines that have some shootouts in those models and start visiting some dealerships.

Sounds like you definitely want a utility. Your not going to find a sport to carry things. Their are some cross breeds like the Yamaha wolverine.

well.. The honda foreman is a 4wd and 500cc, but this is just a major work horse.. not suited for trails at all. The rancher 420 is 4wd this is a great trail quad and could be used for a lil work here n there. Or if u want a powerful utility go for the brutefore 750

The rancher looks pretty sweet. I think I would like something a little more on the sport side of the fence than utility. I just need to be able to carry a bag of camping gear is all. The rancher looks like a great option.

Yamaha Grizzly 450 is a great quad, auto., 4wd, differential lock, separate front and rear brakes, independent rear suspension. It has a great ride and goes just about anyplace. It's nice and small, but not too small so it's pretty nimble on tight woods trails.

If you need a lot of storage and carrying it's tough to beat a Polaris Sportsman. They have a great front box that can fit a lot of gear. If you got a Polaris Sportsman X2 you'd have a dump bed that can convert to a passenger seat when needed. If you just want a 500cc or so there are great machines from all the major makers. Suzuki King Quad 450 with EFI, Can-Am has both a sport and sport utility 500cc if I remember right. The sport one is called Renegade, the other is Outlander. Kawasaki doesn't really have a 500 class machine. They have a 360 that is the Prairie, and the 650 Brute Force EFI. Yamaha has a new Grizzly 550 that has power steering and fuel injection. I'm not to up on Arctic Cat's or Honda's offerings. Maybe someone else can help you learn about their models. All the major manufacturers make great 4x4s. It's tough to go wrong.

Something you may not no , but i got a inside tip on new yamaha atv`s yet to come out !

Acourding to gorden bay marine , the 450 or 500 grizzly they got now is going to be end of the line , due to tranny problems ,something was said about a oversized bushing and a undersized bearing, is what i was told .
And they are comming out 2 months from now with a 600 cc. grizzly.

and again in may 2009 with a 800 big grizzly.

now im not sure how true this is , but you may wana wait till the new ones come out , that is if you are looking to buy new.

Yamaha just released a Griz 550, so I doubt we'll be seeing a 600.

No sport ATV can carry enough gear for camping, you only choice is a Utility after that it is do you want, a full size chassis or mid size? For Example a 400 Arctic uses the same big frame as there big 650- 700s do and is larger than a 450 Grizzly "physically".

The 420 Honda Rancher is only 55cc less than a Honda Foreman yet the Foreman has much more space for passengers, larger racks and towing capacity.
