Curious to how many of you ride in the winter, where you ride, what you wear and carry for all day outings. Plus have any of you camped out over nite? Tent or Camper?

I love riding in the winter!!!
I got syder trac tires on my scrambler to make it through heavy snow on the mountain I ride on.

I usually wear carhartt cover alls, a face mask under my helmet, a pair of work gloves with double lining, and a good pair of boots.

I never camped out though, it gets really cold at night.

I was once a boy scout so I know what the word being prepared is about. I just build storage box out of a supluse army rocket box, which I have loaded with an Axe, Fist Aid Kit, etc for survivle. I also chop up some dry wood and bring some paper so we can start a fire if needed.

I wear a full face with a mask on underneath and for clothing .. well I put on mucho layers. Oh yeah and Hot Hands ... those are great.

Hey Mac,
A few guys from the Connection are going up to northern WI. next weekend for an annual winter ride. We usually cover about 200 miles, up to Iron River on Sat and back to Danbury on Sun.It's a blast!! I wear jeans and bibs on bottom and layer the top, T-shirt, long sleeve flannel, sweat shirt w/hood (when you stop and take off your helmet it's nice to have something to cover your head) good pair of water proof winter boots (two pair of socks cotton and wool), full face helmet w/goggles (keep some tissue in a dry easily accessable place to wipe the fog off of your goggles/sheild when you stop) and good pair of gloves. The first thing that usually gets cold is your throttle thumb and finger tips, so spare no expence on your choice of gloves. Winter riding, when dressed appropriatly, is some of the most fun you can have on your ATV. I've caught myself on numerous occassions while powersliding through a series of S turns, letting out a sub-concious WOooooHOooooo!!!!

Greetings,

I also use the lined Carhart overalls with high rubber boots lined with Thinsulate. I have a face mask or a balaclava plus I usually use a standard motocycle helmet with a full face shield. I have the fur lined muffs than go over your hands and handlebars together, but my thumb still gets cold so I usually wear leather gloves -- unlined if under the covers, lined if not using the covers. I also wear a winter weight leather jacket -- nothing cuts the wind like leather.

The winters are not that cold where we ride. There is snow. For my feet I use Wolverine hunting boots that are Gortex so they are water proof. They have 600grams of insulate liner to keep you warm. I will wear ski bibs to keep my legs warm with blue jeans underneath. Up top a coat with a fleece shirt & T-shirt. Dress in layers. For the hands I use a medium weight glove that has Goretex so its water & wind proof. I hate having cold feet or hands when riding.

Thanks for the replies fellows!! I too, wear extremne carharts over polyskins and jeans sweatshirt and a polar hood under a motorcycle helmet and leather lined gloves. My kodiak has red hand guards, heated grips and soon a thumb warmer.
Scramdaddy, I will be riding in Iron county Wis Feb 16th thru 18th weekend with friends. Sorry I couldn't make the ride. I do remember your ride was in a Dirtwheels issue with pictures a year or two ago. That's when I wanted to start doing but needed to find some folks up here in the UP Mich to ride. I met some folks during the May Memorial Day Weekend Hurley ATV Rally that do ride from Wis that ride the Northwoods every month during the winter or as a matter of fact year round.

Enjoy the Ride

Winter riding can be some of the funnest riding. When we go out I always dress in layers, levis, thermals, long sleeve tee shirt, lined flannel jacket, coat, full face helmet with the mouth piece tapped off and goggles. Partial ski mask, for the lower part of my face. I wear snow boots, with gators. I also use ski gloves. I take along my ski bibs when the weather gets really cold.
For my bike I have hand guards and gauntlets. We always are prepared with essential survival needs. We even take along the modern toys, cell phone, and a GPS.
my next upgrade is going to be hand warmers.

The best investment I made for winter riding is a windshield. I keeps the cold air from hitting you in the first place.
