How stable is your job?
#1
Just like the title says:
I thought I was good to go.........and then my boss starts to act and say weird things. So I flat out ask him the other day. "How stable is my job"?
He said, "I don't really know yet but it's not super stable"!!! He usually says things like, "oh everything is ok.........don't worry........bla bla bla.........things like that!!!
And now this!!!
I'm guess I'm lucky I don't owe 1 cent!!!

My job at a local auto body shop is never stable its always up and down, depending on the number of accidents we have. this summer was pretty slow, not alot of people fixing their scratches and dings because they had no $. the bad weather is what is keeping me busy right now, lots of ice and snow!
if it wasn't for the weather i would be laid off, agean!, and spending even more time fixing atvs at the local repair shop.
idk how secure anyones job is these days with big banks an big auto manufacturers circleing the tiolet.

Well my fathers job in a couple years will probably be flushed down the toilet. He is a union maintenance electrician at honeywell who makes airplane wheels and brakes, they barely escaped with there jobs this past contract.Honeywell has 2 plants up and running in china and 1 in mexico they are a defense contractor, most of the workers have taken a 30% pay cut which is overtime. So in 2 years when contract is up we shall see most likely they will leave, leaving our town in a state of shock and anger. One note my uncle works for citi in nyc and he said hold onto your @$$ because it's only gonna get worse

I work for a company that makes Synthetic Diamond Inserts for Oil and Natural Gas Drill bits, so a lot of people are afraid there might be some lay-offs. The CEO says that sales will most likely go down 10-15% in 09' due to the slow down in oil drilling and production. But so far all we've been told is that we'll be just fine as far as having a secure job. It's nice to know that most of the diamond we make goes toward drilling Natural Gas and not just Oil.

Well, the wife worked for a mortgage company. Then got transfered over to another part of the banking system when that division went belly up. They were bought out, and now her last day is in April.
I do security work, so the field itself is stable, but you never know what will happen with the company I'm at now.
I'm sure the owner has lost a bit of money in his investments, so you never know if someone were to come along and make and offer, would he take it. And what affect would that have on me.
Just in case, I'll be starting to work part time next month too. Having extra money won't hurt in case something does happen.

A few years ago the factory I worked in closed. Now I'm getting a disability pension from GM and no social security. I may end up with no job, no social security, and no pension either.

I am retired and the prospects remain pretty good that I will stay retired, so I would say my "job" working around my farms, riding ATV/Rhino, shooting and playing with grandkids is stable.
Seriously though, I am glad I am no longer in the work force as it is getting pretty grim. There are getting to be fewer and fewer "stable" employment situations all the time.

I retired 4 years ago and am doing ok. Wife is in the medical field, but even there, you think it is secure, but lay-offs are happening. Fortunately for us, I have been able to secure a contract job for the last six months and recently was hired by a local community college part time. With my own little business going, we have been doing good is this tough time.
