hey all. getting tired of the search feature not working. i need to replace the winch rope on my vinson. it is a warn 2500 lb winch and right now, the old owner has a synthetic (looks like a seat belt) flat type of rope installed. he had it all tangled up. my son and i went out to try to untangle it. i found out why he had it tangled. it wasn't secured to anything. i proceeded to anchor it down, but i am thinking of just replacing it with a synthetic rope. what all do you guys recommend? my arctic cat has a steel rope and with the plow on it, it is getting a memory formed on the last 2 foot.

 

I love the synthetic rope on our Polaris winches and I believe you can order some from the PURE Polaris online store. Just about anywhere that sells winches will have a synthetic rope replacement kit. They'll almost always run you $100 and they're really all the same. I know Polaris uses Amsteel blue rope which is good for over 4K lb.

 

I suppose it's a chance to try synthetic rope. Most guys who change to synthetic and would not get back with steel again, as I know that.
Some others order an extra 10' rope for plow too.

Ive read somewhere on here a guy has amsteal rope for around $80. I have synthetic on my bike and make sure to use an aluminum fair lead so it dont tear the rope up. There is another alternative, look at the arctic cat forum, i just read about it. I guess its better than the aluminum fair lead ,but i dont know what it is. Also when i got my winch it came with the rope and on the end is a sleeve about 3 ft long so when you plow the sleeve will roll on the fair lead and not damage the rope. Its also able to slide on the rope so if you use your winch and the rope is rubbing on a rock you can slide the sleeve down so the rope dont get cut.

ok he was talking about a hawse fairlead and the topic was in the "other atv topic" forum. I also seen a guy had bought 50' of rope for $65 off ebay in the arctic cat forum. thats a good deal.
