I have an idea and I need input as to what you think, if it is a good idea, if you or someone you know would be interested, ect. I have patented the idea but the more input I have when going to the manufacturers the better.
I have patented my idea to improve the tent and pop up camp trailers so that we can haul our ATV's on the top. I know that Junpin Jacks Trailers has somthing simular but theirs is more or less just a tent. I am talking about trailers like the Colemans tent trailers, and the High-Low trailers. My thought is that this might apeal to people who would like a trailer, want to take their 4 wheelers with them, but don't want to buy one of the larger Toy Haulers. Additionaly we can take both camp trailer and ATV without having an additional trailer, or sacrificing living space within the trailer. This trailer would have lower wind resistance also.
I have attached my drawing of what the trailer will look like. If you click on it it enlarges.
Thanks so much for your help. I look forward to hearing from everyone

If you can find a pop up trailer that is 8' wide that would be good. It would allow you to modify it in such a way to put 2 quads on side by side. You'd have to reinforce the top and probably upgrade the suspension with one or two leaf springs on each side and higher load rated tires. Otherwise, your drawing spells it out pretty well.

I agree with Moose, pop up suspensions are not load friendly, a kit would need to include spring or mods to beef up suspension, and frame rigidity, but a good idea overall,it would leave the back of the truck free to haul gear, or more ATVs.

Welcome to the forum sks!
I almost did something similar to my Jayco tent trailer before I sold it..It was the big tandem axle model and it would have needed suspension work....it had a torsion set up so I didnt bother.

It will need a very stout roof and support of said roof while going down the road, which in turn will require a stronger roof raising mechanism for the added weight.
Good idea over all, good luck.

Dande makes a very good point, the raising mechanism is only rated for so much, the quad loading part would have to either be removeable,or the whole system beefed up. Sounds like this could get complicated and expensive !!

I think the best way is to fabricate side supports that mount on to the trailer frame and then have tracks that go side-to-side ABOVE the trailer roof. This way you can easily get two quads on top since most tent trailer roofs are longer than eight feet.
The support brackets would need to be easily removable (kind of like trailer hitch sliders) so the whole rack system could be removed quickly after the quads are removed.
This way you wouldn't have any weight on the roof of the trailer and your only modifications would be to the trailer frame rails and the suspension.

Welcome
I think it would be a great idea, but there would have to be alot of up grades to mod the camper. Sounds very pricey $$$$
Let us know what happens.
Dont lose the faith, keep inventing.

right on, it's out of the box thinking like this that keeps this country going, just give it a good look from all angles, and you could really have something.
