What makes a atv go faster when you change the pipe?

It goes like this.
An engine is nothing more than an air pump. The more air you put in and get out the more power the engine will put out.
If you put a tuned exhaust system on the engine it will flow more air and you will get more power.
Here is a simple link for you.

Actually it will not make it "faster"
Top speed is determined by gearing and your rev limiter. That's the bottom line.
Repiping and rejetting your quad will give it more horsepower and torque, it will make it quicker (different from faster) but will not make it faster unless you change the rev limiter or gearing.
The engine will still hit the rev limiter at the same rpm no matter what else you do to the motor.

Rev limiter?? What stinking rev limiter? <G>
The question was why a pipe makes a quad faster.
I think we all agree that it makes more power thus going thru the gears faster.
It also will raise the rpm's.
Maybe to the point of hitting a......rev limiter...but that's a mute issue of the question. LOL

LT80, you are correct that the question was why does a pipe make a quad go faster.
I answered that question.
Do you not understand the difference between "quick" and "fast"?
As an example, the quickest dragster torun the quater mile is not always the fastest in the quarter mile.
Big diffence between quicker and faster.
You not knowing what a rev limiter is, shows your ignorance in this situation.

"Do you not understand the difference between "quick" and "fast"?"
As a 3 time top 10 national overall finisher (01-01-04)and my daughter being a 11 time national champion, I can say with a certain degree of probability that I cetainly do.
I'll try to explain it again as I read it...
The question implies certain positives. The question demands that it should be considered that there is no rev limiter and that the gearing is the same.
IMO your complicating a simple question.
So, why does a pipe make a quad faster:: more power and rpm's..

When I wash mine I swear it goes faster !!!!!!!
I would not bother spending the money unless yours has fallen off or you are into extreme performance. I recall pulling the engine on my 454 CID 1972 240z just to put in the new fangled 3 prong spark plugs...25 years ago lol...Sure seemed faster until I took it back out on the track and clocked it
